i went to the doctors on tuesday, they took blood to do some tests. The next day i had a bruse kinda looking thing where the doctor took the blood from. It got a little worse as the days went by...and i still have it, it's sunday. Im scared, is it supposed to look like that?? I've never had to give blood for tests, so is this ok?

Registered Nurse here. Many times after getting blood drawn for the next several days the area will look terrible, bruising, turning from bluish, black to yellowish black, then mostly yellowish, and all of these are stages of the body reabsorbing the blood that was spilled into the tissue so to speak. Now what is not normal, is there heat in the area, redness, streaks going up your arm, are you running fever? Are just general not feel ling well. If so, you need to contact your physician immediately and let he or she know, for all of the symptoms listed are signs of infection, and should not be occurring, without a complication being present. Thanks for the opportunity to address your question.

Some people bruise more easily then others. It should start going away over the next few days like any of your other bruises. Remember that taking blood for tests requires poking a small hole in one of your blood vessels, so a little leaking of blood when the needle is taken out can occur. This causes the bruise. Next time your doctor needs to draw blood, you can let them know about the bruise and ask them if they can use a smaller needle.

It's probably nothing to worry about. I had blood drawn last month, and it started to bruise later that day. It got worse for several days, looked horrible, and finally began to clear up. Sometimes this happens, especially if the needle goes all the way through the vein. It'll clear, up; just takes some time.

A bruise is nothing to worry about unless it is getting bigger. If it is growing up, is hard, and or spreading u might have a hematoma. The dr would need to take a look at that. If it is just flat and purple and just looks ugly, u probably don't need to worry.

You are totally okay -- I always bruise really bad when I get my blood taken and it always lasts a long time. I have to always get it taken out of my hand, and it bruises so bad people ask me what happened.
