Never use sun-in... it will eat your hair!!! It's like acid for your hair.
There is nothing wrong with coloring your hair. Have your mom take you to a salon and let your stylist explain to her that nowadays color is gentler than ever. It's best for your first time to get some subtle highlights on your bottom layers so if you don't like them or can't stay up with the upkeep, you won't have roots.
Good luck!!!

Okay this is so funny...I just have to tell you. My daughter at the same age wrote me a letter telling me why she wanted to dye her hair and how unfair I was being by not letting her do it. She actually wanted to dye it blue. When she turned 25 I made her a scrapbook of memories such as letters to the toothfairy and all sorts of photos..also I included this letter. When she read the letter she said, "boy am I glad I didn't do that...it was so stupid." But I realize that you are not wanting your hair blue...But what I do want to say is that if your mom says not to do it...you really should respect her and not do it. If you feel that you should, then be a good attorney and plead your case to her. If you win, then she will let you, ...if not wait a few years. I don't think coloring your hair will turn it gray...but it will make it more brittle and damaged feeling. Lemon juice will slightly lighten it and sun in will make it slightly lighter with a red highlight...sun in is better to lighten hair that is not naturally dark.
Do your homework on the affects of hair dye and present it with a list of why you want your hair dyed. If you just do it anyway without her blessing...be prepared for a shaved head.

by experience i can tell you that if she said no than its gonna stay that way .but if you want a bias opinion don't dye it. i messed with my hair since i was 16 till i was 18 my hair looks like a rag after two years of not doing anything to it its dry and i still have split ends and that will only happen after one dye .then after the dye begins to were off it will begin to turn orange just think about it a little more remember hair doesn't grow that quick either

I have the same color hair and although most dark haired ppl become gray earlier it is not that soon.I am 26 I have about 4 strands of gray okay 5 lol but seriously don't freak about this.Write down all the reason you want to dye your hair, and show them to your mom, let her know how much this matters to you and you do respect her decisions.YOu could buy some of that shampoo for brunettes by John Frieda at walmart it will lighten it a little. It brings out natural highlights.Don't bug your mom about it too much. You will have plenty enough time to do all the things you want to do when you turn 18 and you will wish you had someone to take over your life.....trust me.

Your parents are smart people. When parents don't allow you to do something, it's because it's a bad idea. When girls with your hair color dye ther hair light, they look horrible! I hate it when girls try to dye their hair lighter, especially when they claim to be naturally blonde once they do it or when they act stupider or something. It would be nice to look at people and know their natural hair color, although you can just look at the roots. Dying your hair is like taking up smoking, it looks cool, but it's expensive, addicting and does a lot of damage. You're 12, almost 13... if you dye your hair this young you'll be a fake and a skank, at least in some people's eyes, even if they do compliment it. Part of growing up is admitting your parents are sometimes right.

Try and compromise with your parents. You can have some highlights put in that are a couple shades lighter than your natural hair color, which will enhance your color by adding more depth to it. This way, your parents will be happy that your hair isn't freakishly different, but you'll still be happy that it IS different.

And no, at 17 your hair will not be gray just because you colored it =)

promise them u will do whteva they want u to if u can dye ur hair, like better results in exam or whtsoever.
n dun go too far for the hair color, keep it natural,so they might find it more acceptable n if they like it, they may let u do it again. but if they dun, u may never do anythin else to ur hair ever again.
n no ur hair wont turn like an old person as long as u stick to good brands. well, it depends on u for the highlight thing, but yes, i would strongly recommend u to do it aswell, it reli brings out the color n texture, it makes a huge difference, go for it honey. ask the expert or hairstylist in the salon for the color, afterall, they r more professional, u can also tell them wht u like by givin them some references like celeb from the magazine or whtsoever.
if ur mom reli insist not lettin u to dye ur hair, u can at least lighten up ur hair a bit by urself. add some 'lemon juice' on ur hair, stay in the sun for a whole day, n u may see a bit difference. gd luck

use colored hair gel or mousse as an easy way to color hair without the commitment or damage. these stuff wash off with shampoo and water and they come in many funky colors.

try Manic Panic Dye Hard for some crazy color that glow under black light,
or Wella hair mousse

Listen to your parents. It doesn't matter what you look like, as long as you are nice and generous. Sometimes hair dyes look trashy on people, and you wouldn't want that to happen, would you? Your parents are just trying to protect you. Dye your hair when you move out. Now, just don't worry about it.

it's not going to be gray but it is hard to get it light brown unless you get it done professionally. your mom is incorrect to say that it'll be gray. i've personally dyed my hair a million times and NEVER has it once turned gray. if you're able to afford it, then get it done professionally. if not, then i will admit that dying black hair light on your own is tough to get the exact shade you want since black is so dark. i think to ensure the right color would be to bleach the color out. i've died my hair blonde but the color never went platinum but would be almost a dirty blonde color. it's just extremely hard to dye on top of black since it is so dark and i think the professionals do bleach it first. sun in is like bleaching but i personally have used it once and turned my hair more orange-y if anything. i've stuck with more of a burgundy/red color now and i love it. but definitely change your hair. you're only young once!!
