I gave my dog Frontline Plus but he is biting and scratching and I hate it! We have a big, woody back yard. I have found 1 or 2 fleas on him a week or so ago, none since. I went out and raked up all the leaves and debris so the yard is clean but he's still itching. Can I double up on Frontline? Is there anything I can put on the grass to kill bugs/fleas?

Second question: if the dog's nails are clicking on the hardwood and tile floors, are they too long? Should he not click click click as he walks around the house? I do cut them often but maybe not enough?

Thanks I really appreciate it.

do not give a double dose of frontline, or use any other flea product w/o consulting your vet...he may have an allergy to flea bites...actually it is to the flea saliva...i just went through a horrendous problem with my anatolian shepard. your dog might need a cortisone shot to stop the itching. you can use tea tree oil or eucalyptus oil inside the house and on the dogs bedding/sleeping area to repel fleas. there are good procucts to use for killing fleas in your yard...they breed in dirt and grass, and the eggs can remain dormant for years before hatching.
if your dog's nails are clicking on the floor, chances are they need to be trimmed. hope this was helpful to you...good luck with the flea problem!!!

Take him to your vet to have them trim the nails...maybe you're not cutting them back far enough. And if you don't trim them regularly, the "quicks" can grow as well...and therefore that makes the amount you can trim less. As for the fleas...don't double up on the frontline. Call a pest control service out to treat your yard...sometimes store bought products don't work that well, and they only kill the adults. Maybe he has had an allergic reaction to the fleas is why he is itching. You may want a vet to take a look That happens A LOT! Make sure if you bathe..wait 2 days before/after bath to apply flea prevention.

ok...FIRST never "double up" on the frontline. that would be too much pesticide on your dog.

as for the yard, raking is good, but you should spray it with a flea killing agent...you can get at your vet's office, maybe Petsmart.

next, use Fleabusters for your home, especially if you have carpet. Fleabusters is not a dangerous pesticide, therefore safe around children and pets. It contains Borax which dissolves the flea's shell, thus killing it and the eggs in about 2 weeks!

one application lasts at least a year. mine has lasted almost 3 years now. i highly recommend it, having 7 dogs of my own.

but you do have to treat all three places, dog, yard, home to be rid of the pesky critters. i hate fleas especially in the south where the climate is warmer longer.

good luck!

You can put pesticides on your lawn that will kill fleas and ticks, but it's pretty expensive (depending on the size of your property) and you can't let your dog out there for a day or two. I wouldn't double up on the Frontline without asking your dog's vet first.

How often do you trim your dog's nails? My dog's nails grow like crazy; I end up trimming them once a month.

Your canines for sure has flea dermatitis - meaning one flea bite contraptions off his allergic reaction. It takes 3 months for a flea bite to flow away and end itching, meanwhile, your canines is horribly uncomfortable. that's unlucky which you probably did no longer use something that works properly - Advantix is relating to the final as fleas have enhanced resistance to Frontline in some factors of the rustic. you acquire the Capstar i think once you went to the vet, it did get the fleas off. you at present might desire to make VERY particular that your place and backyard are flea unfastened - meaning washing all canines bedding, vacuuming sofas and rugs, throw the bag out. you're able to might desire to spark off flea bombs on your place and spray your backyard besides. i be attentive to those products value money, yet that isn't the place you attempt to save via finding out to purchase below the final - as in Advantix, no longer armor or harz products, that became your issue interior the 1st place and your undesirable canines is now reacting to flea bites enormous time. ensure all fleas are long previous out of your place and backyard ---- fairly, fairly, freshen up. provide your canines a flea shampoo now, then prepare Advantix and confirm you are trying this each and each single MONTH. meanwhile, for the undesirable canines's reaction to bites he already has, provide him some Benadryl liquid a minimum of two times an afternoon, which will help with the itching. i'm stunned your vet did no longer inform you that or prescribe some antibiotic using fact your canines gets infections from scratching his epidermis uncooked - then he has much greater issues. Get this below administration, actual and carefully ---- then placed Advantix on your canines each and each month without fail. I certainly have 2 canines with flea dermatitis, had an infestation finished with epidermis infections from scratching a pair of years in the past and am now very, very careful to confirm they don't get fleas. that's what you will might desire to do. do away with fleas Flea unfastened homestead and backyard provide canines a tub to do away with previous debris provide canines Benadryl to end the itching If epidermis is uncooked and contaminated from scratching, one greater holiday to the vet for antibiotics is actual needed. i be attentive to this could be a soreness for you, despite the fact that it extremely is greater of a soreness on your canines - so resolve this issue as quickly as and for all.
