You could make a zillion bucks and still be poor or you could have two cents in your pocket and be wealthy. Rich and poor is a manifestation of what condition you soul is in. In God we are all rich in spirit. If you measure your condition based on material things then you are looking at the World through the flesh. In reality your Father owns it all and you just get to be a tempory adminsitrator of what ever He gives you to be steward over and give away. If you are surrendered to the Lordship of Jesus then you will have every cent you need to minister at the level He wants you to. If you have to beg for money then maybe you could be operating on your own timeplan? It is OK to teach your people the principal of giving, but not at the time the church needs a new airconditioner. God already know the true needs of the body of Christ and if we try to control the money He will let us and we will never have enough at the right time. If we let Him lead even in our finances then we will always have what we need, especially for His business.
The Rev.

Ask anyone in the middle class. The cost of living keeps increasing but the wages aren't keeping up with buying power.

There was a time when a middle income earner could support his family by himself but now most need both the husband and the wife to work to make ends meet.

Here, in Canada, I'd say anyone earning less than $45,000 per year could be considered working poor.

Good question. If you live in Santa Barbara, California apparently you can make quite a lot and be considered poor. There is a program there that will subsidize condos that are worth about half a million for people that are only making a hundred thousand a year. I could have some of that wrong, it could be one hundred and fifty thousand a year.

A lot. To be officially poor you can make almost 20k a year where I live. The kicker isn't really how much you make its the asset limits. You can't have very many things that count as assets or it doesn't matter how much you make. Keep America ghetto that's Bush's motto

That depends on the cost of living in your area. I would say that if you don't make enough to cover even a small emergency, like a flat tire, you are poor.

You can be the richest person and be alone. But of course you know this.

But there is hope:

And again I say unto you, It is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter into the kingdom of God.
When his disciples heard it, they were exceedingly amazed, saying, Who then can be saved?
But Jesus beheld them, and said unto them, With men this is impossible; but with God all things are possible.

i have known some millionaires who were pretty poor. i'm not trying to be cheezy or sentimental, but some of the richest people are only rich in wealth, but poverty-level in every other aspect of their lives. conversely, i have known a girl who made $17,000 per year and was full of joy and friendships. poverty can display itself in a lot of areas of life. live richly no matter your income!

That sort of depends on how much money you spend. Costs more if you have a bunch of kids, a druggie or alcoholic can never make enough. It's all relative.

While I agree that your riches rely on your personal sense of how wealthy you are, I resent those who have seized on this question as an opportunity to proselytize. Leave it in the religion section. My etiquette system calls for you not to shove your religious preferences on me unless I ask about it,and this question doesn't qualify!
