Danny Rollings, the Gainesville murderer, did some horrible things that made me heartsick but when he was executed a few days ago, it was painful to me as well. He did need to be separated from society because he was dangerous but for him to be executed seems wrong to me...Any comments?

Matthew 38 Ye have heard that it hath been said, An eye for an eye, and a tooth for a tooth: 39 But I say unto you, That ye resist not evil: but whosoever shall smite thee on thy right cheek, turn to him the other also. 40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloke also. 41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain. 42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.

43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy. 44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. 46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same? 47 And if ye salute your brethren only, what do ye more than others? do not even the publicans so? 48 Be ye therefore perfect, even as your Father which is in heaven is perfect.

Being sad a human is dead is a sign your a good person, that's how we are supposed to feel.
An eye-for -an-eye only works for me on child molesters and humans that are beyond reaching, (killing machine types). Anyone hurts a child I won't miss. Anyone that kills for fun I won't miss.
I hope each case is reviewed for accuracy and correctness, but once proved then stop the delays and kill them. Many people are affected by these - are they people? - that hurt children or kill for fun, they have families that do not understand why this child they raised turned so wrong, and there is the victims family members that know this won't bring back the victim.
Capital punishment will always be a mixed bag - because society does like to admit that there are less than humans walking around in 2006. We are dreaming of utopia all the time, and they molesters and killers return us to reality like a slap in the face.
You are just in the wrong century, in the future, I hope, people will have these urges and passions more under control than today's humans do.
We are only what 75 -100 years removed from lawlessness, so we are learning to be more civil and closer to our better selves. (I hope.)

I struggle w/this issue, the thing is that they didn't care when they were killing and hurting people. Then the state has to pay a great deal of money to house them and then it is on my dollar.
I think that it will always be a situation where the crime should fit the punishment. Look at the killers in all the prisons here in America, that money could be used elsewhere to help the survivers of the crimes. I don't know I guess we will struggle this issue on and on.

Depends

There HAVE been documentations of people who DIDN'T DO IT, but got the punishment.

What do you people think of that. Someone who DIDN'T DO IT but got gased or electrocuted or lethally injected!

It has happenened, at least 2 or 3 times on record, which is WHY the US Supreme Court banned executions for a while.

Can everyone live with KILLING the WRONG PERSON?!

I agree. I think capital punishment is legalized murder.
I wonder if anyone who supports capital punishment were taught, or remember being taught while growing up that "two wrongs don't make a right", and can a religious person tell me this...who has to answer for the life that's taken due to a sentence handed out by man?

Capital punishment would be, and is a good thing. The only problem is that sometimes we have imperfect justice, by faulty juries/judges. If we could have perfect justice, then yes, capital punishment would make sense. The only way someone can pay for killing someone(1st degree, innocent murder) is really with his own life. That would be justice. Yes, unfortunately an innocent person does get killed because of the imperfect justice, but it is the better way.

An eye for an eye is not capital

punishment. Capital punishment

is awarded for killing innocent

person/s in cold blood, without

any reason for the offence.

If a person kills in self defence

or with any other convincing

reasons, the capital punishment
is not given.

An eye for an eye is barbaric

judicial system, and the same

is prevalant in many Islamic

Countries- including Saudi
Arabia.

The laws of such countries are

to be changed and the UN is unable

to do so for several years.

The objective of Human Rights

emerged for this purpose and many
other purposes.

I DO NOT AGREE FOR- AN EYE FOR AN EYE,

BUT AGREE FOR DEATH PENALTY ON THE
ABOVE GROUNDS OF INNOCENT KILLING/
OR COLD BLOODED MURDERS.

well imagine a terrorist after convicted is put behind the bars and is given 100 yrs ( you feel very humane and wanted to protect his rights)in jail for killing thousands in a blast , he escapes from the jail and plans for another dreaded attack to kill thousands , now justify yourself you wanted to save a terrorist or the innocent people.
No democratic govt would love to award capital punishment ,but this would be awarded in the rarest of the rare case owing to the case sensitivity.

I have no problem with teh concept of capital punishment, but in practice, innocent people really do occasionally get executed as a result. Don't trust the state with your life.

I think capital punishment is too easy. A murderer should have a long, long life by himself for months and years of reflection.

im not for killing people but at extreme circumstances its better to lose an arm than the whole body...you have to give something to get something...i do feel bad for executing people but if it were to save the rest of society it has to be done ...its like when a woman wheels a knife at an officer ...what do you do ?...let her stab you ??? No you shoot her...if you dont she will kill you...Hunter or prey ...
