I know it is dried up milk caused by an over flow situation during production. But, I have wondered if it is unhealty for one to consume. I try to clean it off before I use the container but I think it is nasty...

It's dried crusty milk. There's probably not enough to HURT you, but if it's on there, I'd wipe off the neck of the jug before pouring the milk. You really wouldn't want to drink it in your milk if you could help it.

I agree, it's disgusting!

as long as its not anthrax ... i believe we are safe now.. unless the FDA uses scare tactic and tell us milk is unsafe to consume like spinach and lettuce seems to be right now . we better invest in getting a cow. on second thought we don't want mad cow disease either when is it gonna stop all this fear .. just drink the milk and wash off the crust with hot water or use and koolaide pitcher with a lid to keep it fresh; that isn't being used if you feel it is unsafe .. Stop worrrying get ya vitaminD

If you'll wipe your container off AFTER you use it it will eliminate this stuff, instead of wiping it off after it's already dried and funky.
