It's a strange phenomenon. A pendulum light in a lounge will attract a fly in the room to fly in a square formation endlessly unless disturbed. This is in broad daylight, with no light or heat being emitted from the light. Why??!!

It's more probably that they are actually flying in a square area at the center of the room. I don't remember where, but I remember reading an article saying that flies use a type of echo sounding system, much like bats, so they can keep a set distance from an object (the room's walls in this case). This causes them to fly in what looks like a square in a square room. It's just by coincidence that the light happens to hang in the center of the room as well !

Isn't anyone going to ask Why the asker is watching a fly in a lounge for hours?

I think it choses the light as a reference point and then goes around in ever increasing circles looking for food.
