wel then clean her well & put ointment on her sores & raw skin. She loses alot of hair at times too. We do give her benedryl occasionaly too & it does help some. We can not afford all the allergy tests. We do give her special dog food & special dog shampoo. When she gets bad like that, we do put a sweater on her & sometimes we have to put a malot on her. She is 12 pounds & 3 years old. Does anyone have any suggestions or advice? I feel so bad to see her this way. She is such an adorable little one. Any comments would be much appreciated. Thankyou!

Read food labels. Corn and wheat products are the number one cause of skin allergies. Even "specialty" foods have ingredents that dogs shouldn't eat.
Read "Foods Pets Die For" by Ann N. Martin for all the gruesome details. You will be shocked and amazed.
Look up Innova EVO it is doing great things for allergic dogs. You won't be sorry. Also, Wellness, Canidae, Artimis, and California Natural are also good. California Natural has a supplement that works wonders. Look for it if you do nothing else.
Ark Naturals is a company that makes herbal remedies for pets. Go to www.arknaturals.com and order directly from the company.
Good luck.

Did a vet do a skin scrape to check her for demodex mange? All dogs have mange mites, some are just more sensitive, and things like stress can cause a problem. Benedryl occasionally isn't going to do anything at all. To see a result with benodryl *or any anti-histamine* you have to use it 2-3 times daily for weeks, sometimes months. Contact your vet about the dosage, I can't give it to you, they also have other anti-histamines you can try, bc anti-histamines aren't always proven effective in dogs...and somtimes you have to try more than one to find one that works. You may want to ask your vet about derm caps as well. There's nothing you can do, besides do what the vet suggests,...and somtimes the only thing that will work it to do the allergy testing. The one that we do is around $200

She may be allergic to what you are cleaning her with. Try to use just water. Have you checked her for flees? It also may be the cleaning products you use to clean your floor or other household products. There are organic products you can buy that probably wont irritate her. A good one for cleaning the floor is called Natures Miracle. I don't know how available it is across the US but it comes in a white bottle with red letters. You can get it at Pet-co or stores like that its very inexpensive. Any organic product would probably be OK. Has she ever had contact with laundry detergent? My friends cat got into the laundry detergent once and she had the same problem. All of her fur started to fall out and she scratched like crazy, It was so sad and the cat died eventually. Try to save up the money to your dog tested it will be well worth it.

I have had a couple of dogs who would do this, and both times the vet told me that it was an allergy to flea bites and that you also have to be careful with the over the counter fleat and tick medications, as these can make the dog sick. I regularly took my dog to the vet for a full grooming that including a flea and tick dip. This helped tremendously for him. Unfortunately with animals, like people, they develop habits -- and although I have no doubt in my mind that the dog really itches, it has also developed a habit that will be hard to break until you find the source of the itching. Best of luck to you.

Have you taken her to the vet.. please do so.
It may be that the dog food you're feeding him doesn't have enough of what he needs. Your vet may be able to suggest something better. We switched to Pro Plan..
This may sound silly, but is the air in your home 'moist' enough..does your skin itch..
Worst case I suppose would be that your darlin' is diabetic.
In any case, please, take her to the vet. I'd hate to fill your ears with so many possibilities, rather than the truth.
