Hi... How are you doing? ... when you don't really care... Good day eh? When it is snowing or raining? Is there really anything in English that has some meaning we can really use...

no greeting is stupid - its a part of our language and social structure. If you/we don't play along, society, and communications will break down.

I can give you an example of a stupid greeting, it's not in english but it is stupid just the same... for some reason people say "Qué pedos?" which literally means "what farts?" what the heck does that even mean? How's that for stupid greetings?

how about changing your attitude concerning the greeting? when you ask "how are you doing," stop and take the time to look at the person and choose to be interested. otherwise, just keep it to "hi."

Sometimes when I call a store, they have this insanely long greeting that annoys me. "You've called the best store in the world, how can I help you?"

I see your point !!
When I meet someone, I'll just say "Hi" and if necessary; "How are you?" ... not that I can do anything if they're not OK.
The worst ones that make me cringe ...
"Hey dude, wa-sup" or "Hey, whats goin on?" or the worst one I've ever heard .. "Hey, howz it hangin?"
