Have really bad sinus pain... upper right teeth hurt and I feel like ripping them out. Went to the doctors yesterday, got on an antibiotic. Been taking ibuprofen for the pain and it's just barely taking the edge off the pain. Got any other suggestions I can do other than bang my face against the wall?
Edit: got a dental xray to rule out abscessed tooth. :)

Are you taking something for congestion? A decongestant like sudafed can help.
Assuming it's allergy related, are you taking something for allergies? I'm guessing the doctor gave you something with a decongestant and something to attack the allergies as well - maybe combined in one pill.
If not, you can buy that sort of thing over the counter.
Also, mucinex can help to break up all of that mucous. Gross, I know. Make sure to drink a full glass of water when you take the mucinex. There are generic versions of mucinex that work just as well, and they're a little bit cheaper.
Take a good, long hot shower. I like to use Sudacare Shower Soothers in the shower. They're very large tables that you put on the floor of the shower and when the hot water hits them, you breathe in the vapors. It feels good. This is what they look like: http://www.pfizerch.com/product.aspx?id=531
Also, oral cortisone - in tablet form, not the spray - helped me greatly when I had a sinus infection that I could not get rid of. It went on for weeks before I finally went to the doctor. You've got to have a prescription for them. I took them for seven days, and as I recall, each day the dose is a little smaller. Man, I cannot believe how much they helped me.
Anything that you drink or eat that's hot and steamy will help a little - like hot tea or soup.
Good luck. Hope you feel better soon.

My ENT prescribed guaifenesin 2 600mg tablets twice a day. Mucinex will work but there are generics over the counter that are much cheaper. This is the best stuff for a sinus headache. I used to end up in the ER. The pain would be so intense I would pass out. A CAT scan showed I needed sinus surgery. I did not want to go that route so I stuck with the guaifenesin. Its been a couple of years since Ive had one. Still have allergy attacks but they do not result in the headaches. Guaifenesin thins mucus secretions in the body, usually used as expectorant for chest congestion it has the same effect on the sinuses. Relieves pressure. The more fluids you drink while taking this the better it works. Sudaphed works differently and for me it raised my blood pressure. Deffinitely guaifenesin. Its safe, been around forever. Try an ice pack over the face. Mine used to feel like serious tooth aches like someone drilling the upper teeth.

I have years of experience with sinus pain, and have found that if you catch it early enough just something like Claritan will keep it from becoming a sinus infection. However, if you are in that much pain, you probably have let it go too long, and the antibiotic is what you need. But in the future, when there is a weather change, start taking something like Zyrtec, Claritan or Allegra and you can ward off it becoming an infection. Sometimes, though when you are having pain you can relieve it with Sudafed, (not the Sudafed PE), rather plain Sudafed. I am taking the Claritan & Robitussin pills as the weather change has brought on sinus trouble for me to. I hope you get to feeling better!!

I had something similar to this some time ago. I was told twice I had an infection in the roots of my teeth by a doctor. After having been to a dentist for xrays, it turned up nothing. I went a third time, explain the same symptoms, and I was told that I had a viral sinus infection. The antibotic will not work for this. I was told to use ibuprofen, saline drops in the nose, and to help open up the sinus(helps you when you sleep),
Fenesin. You will find Fenesin in some over cold medications or if you go to Kaiser you can buy a bottle of it, by itself, in pill form. I have not been sick since.

I use warm compresses and a little massage in the area that hurts. It works and sometimes if you are clogged up it will release the crap up there and then you can breath again
