There were 10 commandments that God gave Moses to carry down to the Israelites, but other commands that God told his people to follow. Jesus summed up the 10 commandments into 2: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength", and "Love your neighbor as yourself."

There were only ten major Commandments but followed up by subsequents to support the understanding of the law. Exodus, Leviticus and Deuteronomy have them written down.
