I had the same problem. I also had layers and it just became a hassle. Try cutting your bangs even with your hair, it may be a bit shorter then you want, but if you straiten up your hair to the same length it will be easier to figure out what to do with it. Then you can highlight it, that's my approach, even then highlight. Or you can try but I would not suggest if you have always had straight hair, a perm or "crinkles". Another alternative, is adding some red (but not too dark). But like I said, the blond highlights give it just the kick you are looking for, without the drastic change.

It really depends on you and your face and hair type. One time I went to the learning night at a high-class salon and while the haircut took 2 hours, it inspired me. I now know how to make my wavy hair curly or straighter and introduced me to new styling product that now make me happy with my Walmart cut. Anyway, there are some websites that show hairstyles. I think there's also one that lets you upload a photo and apply the haircuts to it. Isn't there also a computer program that lets you do it? I think its called Cosmopolitan: Makeover.

If you've got a round face, try the step cut or feather cut.
The cut basically depends on your face cut.

Go to a good stylist for advice. Remember, advice is free. And since he'll be able to see you, he'll make a good judgement. Then you can go back if you want, else, go someplace else.
