Ok my husband deployed to Iraq. But before going he started a big bill. The name of the co is American marketing service of Virginia (They sell magazines over the phone).

To make a long story short , I got a bill for $66.48 . I called them and thats when they told me that, my husband agreed to pay them $66.48 a MONTH for FOUR years. My mouth dropped.
So being the responsible person that i am i paid the first bill (without talking to my husband).
I finally got a call from my husband, My first response was to yell and scream . Then when i calmed down , He told me that they told him it was $66.48 a YR for four yrs.

With that being said, I dont want to pay them any more. I asked them how much would it be for me to cancel and they said $400 + dollars... lol Are they crazy???? Whats your opinion on this matter??

Any ideas to get me out of this? (besides paying to cancel)
Also can they legally put this on me husbands credit? I dont think he was dumb enough 2 give the SSN.

have u checked 2 c if the contract was to be paid in 4 equal monthly installments of 66.48 and that the account would then be paid in full for the 4 yrs? hard 2 tell if there was a miscommunication between your hubby and the company or you and the company. if i were u i'd ask a different rep the same question. if u pay the next 3 payments ahead of time, will it cover the 4 yrs or not. 66.48 sounds darned steep 4 a mag subscript. on a monthly basis...but yearly sounds reasonable. u can always contact the BBB in VA. good luck

Go to base leagal. They can give you some very specific opptions on this. I know from personal experiance that the base lawers get a raging woody for scams like this. Given your husbands current deployment status you should have a realitively easy time of attracting some attention too this.

Hope this helps.

It's a scam. What they do is tell you a small amount per magazine and it adds up. Call your Better Business Bureau. Tell them your husband is in Iraq and they will get bad publicity if they pursue this.

You're in a scam, so don't pay for it. Get caller id and don't answer the phone when they call. If they have his SSN, well I can't fix that. Ignore the mail and call the FBI to investigate.
