I heard they aid in weight loss, but some sites say only if you're majorly obese.

I'm average height/weight.

Will they help me lose weight more or less?

I have never heard of taking Flax Seed (oil or pills) for weight loss. However it is prescribed for cholesterol.

You know what works better than flax? Coconut oil! The MCT's in it boost your metabolism. I have a page of the best foods to eat for weight management here http://www.healthandstrength.net/tenfoods.htm I talk about coconut oil...# 3 on my list i think. I ate these foods mostly as well as other things like lean meats and nuts, seeds, etc, to lose 54lbs! You can see my before and after pic here: http://www.healthandstrength.net
Try it! I think its better than flax, but for better brain function, you need the omega 3's they are better sourced from fish oil

I've tried many diets and couldn't make anything work. Since having my first child, I've been carrying around an extra 30 pounds. This diet just made sense and showed me that everything I was doing before was wrong and a waste of my time.

The plan was so refreshing and so simple to follow. I did everything plan said and lost 23 pounds in the first three weeks. I'm now starting the diet again to lose 7 more pounds. This plan has changed my life.

Get started today!

Well, It is not indicated for weight loss. No evidence supports its benefits in reducing weight. This medicine has essential fatty acides and theoritically reduce the risk of heart attack. If you are on a anti lipid (cholesterol) diet it would be a good supplement. Otherwise it is not recommended. It is contraindicated in pregnancy. Like other medicines this one is not complication free.
In a nutshell I am totaly disagree with its usage for weight loss. You'd better to follow the basic rule of weight loss. Less calorie intake and more activity.
Hope this helps.
