He didn't.
He always was, is and will be.
Exodus 3:14 And God said unto Moses, I AM THAT I AM: and he said, Thus shalt thou say unto the children of Israel, I AM hath sent me unto you.
John 8:58 Jesus said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, Before Abraham was, I am.
"I am" - timeless.

The origin of complexity cannot be explained by prior greater complexity. Therefore if something is fundamental then it must be simple not complex. That is why gods do not make sense. Reality must be simple, and complexity must arise from selection effects not design by a greater complexity. The god hypothesis does not solve the problem of existence, it only creates a greater problem.
On the other hand MaxTegmark's "Theory of Everything" explaining reality in terms of mathematics makes a great deal of sense avoiding the issue of how a complex fundamental entity can just be. Instead the fundamental entity is not a creator but is mathematics which does not create reality but is reality, and is not complex but trivially simple.

Eternity is Hard to Understand. We can only get a Glimsp of it.
GOD The Creator is Way Above a Human Being, even Though HE Became One.
We are the ones Who Came Into Being.
The Creator always was (Eternal).
Its Hard.
But it is Easy if you Just let GOD be GOD and don't Think about Things that are too High to Comprehend.
GOD is GOD and HE Loves US.
That is Good Enough for me.

Perhaps the only logical answer can be found by abandoning your conception of what God is.
If God always was, time cannot logically exist and so god is only as present as we are. When we die we cease to know time, and so the God of our existence exists for the span of our lives which in turn is our own personal eternity.
God came into being the day you were born.

God didn't have to come into being, He always has existed. Now, I know this is hard to grasp. Let me try to explain it. God created the universe and the earth. Everything in His creation is bound by time. This time makes everything age and eventually die. But, because God created the idea of time, He is above it. That means that He is not affected by time and therefore doesn't age. Because He is not bound by time, He has always existed and always will.

Read Socrates, "The Cave". Even this pagan philosopher expressed the Christian perspective of God, however imperfectly.
It just goes to show that God can bestow His Grace on whomever He wishes. He is not bound by the rules set for humanity.

God never had a beginning. Only those who begin to be have causes, since God never began to be , He is not the effect of a cause but the only uncaused cause of all else that has a beginning or is an effect. God can effect but is Himself not the effect of a cause, therefore only that which begins to be has a beginner. Or something like that...

By definition, God was the first creature for monotheists. God timelessly exists in every moment, therefore does not have a beginning.

I have wondered the same thing for many years. I also wonder why does ANYTHING exist? I am sure God knows the answers to these questions, but has not yet revealed this information to us. Perhaps one day he will.

Being agnostic I couldn't say for sure. Assuming there is a god wouldn't it have exsisted always?
