Latest polls indicate that they don't. The majority(over 60%) want us out. They see us as the cause of their problems, not their savior. We have open up the Pandora's box and we can't get her back inside. Three and a half years of violence and chaos would wear on anyone. Most Iraqi's are suspicious of our motives. They believe we are building permanent bases and have no intentions of leaving, and they think we are just there for the oil. Don't they know that Halliburton's intentions are pure and that the company just wants to make their lives better? How cynical of them.

Statistically speaking the majority of Iraqi people want all foreign nationals out of their country. Even once the country has gained some stability and the forces move out, there are still no guarantees the new government will be able to hold on. Look at what happened to the Shah of Iran! The region is just too volatile.

The majority of iraqi's belieive that COALITION forces in iraq are helping build their country up after saddam hussein. The insurgents are mainly border crossers from libya and siria. The permanent stationing of u.s in iraq is unlikely because of the political implications. But they may leave a base in one of the major cities on request by the democratic government. But long after the borders are secure from terrorists. After iraq calms down it has the potential to become a prosperous country like saudia aribia or the UAE. And being posted to baghdad in 10 or 15 years might be like being posted to dubai now (not that u.s get posted their).
But yes, most of the iraqis feel safer that there is someone fighting to protect them from the insurgents who try to adopt the face of the entire country and make us feel unwelcome.

All I know is that Bush stated on his latest news conference, when asked about permanent military bases, that we would consider it if the sovereign Iraqi government wanted us there.

I hear they are making a timetable, not so much for us to leave, but for themselves to be able to defend against terrorists who want to rule Iraq again.
