Fairly high humidity causes a light fog that hangs in the valleys.

The Cherokee called these mountains "Place of Blue Smoke" for the lovely bluish mist that rises from the Great Smokey Mountains like smoke.

There are no adequate words to describe the beauty of Nature...the mountains, crystal clear streams, wild life....it's "awesome!"

The Blue Ridge Mtns have a constant haze from weather systems that are literally "trapped" within the peaks. It resembles smoke.

It's because of the fog that rolls off of them. I've visited Tenn. A couple of times and that fog made me homesick for the SF/ Bay Area.
