Suggest you see if the device is working properly. To do this:

cl Start
cl Settings
cl Control Panel
cl System
cl Hardware
cl Device Driver
R-cl on the item to be checked. Click Properties.
That will tell you if the item is working properly.

To update the driver:
Start, Settings, Control Panel, System, Hardward, Device Driver
click the icon for the item you want
click the “update driver” button on the toolbar.

There're a few things to look at while troubleshooting a CD-ROM.
When you put the disk in, does the drive appear to try and read (light comes on and it spins up)?
Is the cable connected correctly at both ends of it (take it out and reseat it)?
If it tries to read, and the cable is connected good... I would suspect the drive of being bad.

Maybe you could take it out and haul it down to your local computer shop. Usually they're glad to test it.

look at the dvd-combo and get the name and model, then locate the host site that makes that product and download the updated drivers, that should fix it. if not you have to look in the BIOS to see if it is reading the drive. if you are having too much issues, e-mail me at janthony419@yahoo.com

what do you mean "it doesn't read it"...?

Does it come up with an error?

if it can't access the disc, then the drive laser might be dirty.
