As President Bush admitted, the slogan was a little misleading. It was intended to state that the American will would hold and the US would not leave until the mission was completed. He has attempted to drive home the message from the beginning that this will be a long, hard, and costly fight, trying to keep Americans mentally prepared and not let them think this was another 100 hour Gulf War.
That message has been misunderstood as to remain unflexible regardless of changes in the situation. He may have been a little late in clarifying it but has.
This was a slogan, a message to both the Iraqis and Americans and not a strategy. The war strategy has not changed, the war tactics always change. Strategy versus tactics is a matter of size and scope.

All wars are winnable but unconventional, low intensity guerilla wars are the hardest.

Because "Stay the Course" has become a pejorative. It left too many people with the impression that no end to the war is in sight and the Bush administration refuses to change tactics in the face of the continued resistance of the insurgency and the mounting U.S. death toll. Which is in fact true, but the people who still support Bush and the war don't want to hear it, because they still think too much bad news and not enough good news comes out of Iraq.

Unfortunately for all the players in the game, there are no longer any good options.

The "Stay the Course" message was dropped, because it was misrepresented to mean there were no changes in tactics by the press. Iraq is winnable, but we'd really have to be far more aggressive, if we're unwilling to do that? Who knows? As for the plan: It apparently means more troops and certain guarantees made by the Iraqi government about federalism and the sharing of oil revenues.

We are continuing the fight and changing tactics - you have to do that in a war. We have always been winning the war. And the Republicans have been steadfast in supporting the troops, unlike your buddies Kerry and Murtha who are running around accusing them of terrorism and wanton murder! You have no respect for the President, and there is no way in hell you or the other libs are supporting the troops! They're doing a fantastic job, but all you all do is whine about how terrible they're doing! You and the rest of them should be ashamed of yourselves, but you're too self righteous for that to even occur to you. Shame on you all!

I think Bush have to cut troops.......because the war is far from winning.......Bush have put Americas yong defenders on the battle fields he doesnot care about troops or there families that is the reason that not only Americas image of being noble country is distroyed....but also other nations belive that the acting government has taken decesions which have bought world to a war..........on the other hand republicans think that Bush is not looking after the American nobelity..............

First the libs cry they want the troops out of Iraq, Bush sets up a time line and now they are unhappy.

What is the liberal solution? They sent the troops there.

Maybe because it's an election year and they're afraid to stand by their convictions? People who need to be re-elected every two years have to wiggle their convictions a bit or they are out of a job.
