When you're drawing a family tree in actual "tree" form, two smaller branches represent the parents of a bigger branch. But what if, for example, a mother had one child with one father and then another child with a second father? How do you show that? I'm a rat breeder and I need to show the mother's other "marriages", because the fact that both children had odd eyes means that it's likely that the mother was the carrier of the gene that I'm looking for. But how do you show step-siblings on a human family tree? Please, any suggestions?

We use a different family group sheet for each couple. That is, if Albert and Alice have children, then they divorce, Albert marries Claire and Alice marries Bob, and they have children again, we'd draw up three family Group Sheets - A+A, A+C, A+B. I would use a different family tree for each coupling, in your case.

Wow can't wait to read the responses because I'm dealing with the same dilema right now with my geneology and how do I list those other fathers and in my case mothers of the main tree who had five different women and eight children between them.

Oops Me thinks me got it! if I'm the main brach from the main tree and my children r the tiny branches with their own little ranches then I must be a limb with five main branches (my wife and four girlfriends) and twigs (my children) coming from those branches and leaves sprouting from those twigs are my grand children who eventually fall off.

Cool I think I answered my own question now that I can see it clearly hope it helps u.

when our family history was being done we listed everyone that was in direct blood relations with the mother. both fathers were listed because of the blood relationship as well. they are marked as step or half, what ever it might be. then when they do their research they use the their parents as the beginning which will be different than the half or step sibling. hopes this helps....kat
