Just got the dog? Is it a pup? If its whining, and not barking, I would think that it needs something. Gotta go out? A little cold? First time away from it litter and/or momma? Comfort you baby, take it out to potty, give it a water bottle or blankets.

You may also want to see if there might be a fever.. or other ailment.

If the dog is just barking.. that's a whole other subject, and you should handle it differently. They need too learn right away that barking for attention... the "let me out, let me out!" thing wont fly, and their bed is for sleeping. Patience, and ignoring are the best choices with a young pup, or very small, fragile doggie like yours. Maybe a firm... "NO, Hush", and possibly a squirt of water to stop the behavior. Then step out of sight, wait a moment until he begins again, and repeat... continue until he gets quiet, and dont let him out until he has been quiet for a few moments.. Dont wait too long, praise for being quiet 10 seconds... then 20... and so on. I takes patience, and practice from you both.

Anytime you adopt a dog - they will go thru an adjustment period which can very distressing for them. It can take a couple of weeks or a month before they settle down into the new home and new routine.

I would suggest that you contact the shelter you got him/her from for suggestions or help.

Instability in a dog's life can be a catalyst for separation anxiety or distress which is a panic disorder. Does this behavior only happen at night? Does it happen whether you are around or not?

First the motivation for the behavior needs to be identified then suggestions, managment can be given to diminish the behavior(symptom).

Punishing this behavior might back-fire so use caution.

Call a behavior counselor to help you.

The kennel/crate in another room is a great suggestion. Put a ticking clock underneath a blanket for a week or so too. Also cover the cage at bedtime every night and the dog will get the hint and naturally go to sleep. One of our children just did all this for their baby dachshund. She is about 10 weeks old now. The crate is also a good way to potty train.

You gambling proper into the puppys palms, doing precisely what she needs you to do. The whining and crying will pass on for a few nights however must scale down or give up inside a couple of nights. Do make certain that she has long past out to potty earlier than going to mattress, many puppies don't love to urinate or defecate of their crates, additionally supply her a couple of toys in her crate. When she begins whining, name her title, to permit her realize that you have not forgot approximately her, however do not underneath any occasions take her out, then she is aware of shes acquired ya :-) Had the identical factor occur to me, now I percentage the mattress with the puppy and the spouse.

I have a 10 week old Chihuahua and she whines too. I put her in a crate, cover her up and put her in the other room. We close the door, that way she wont keep us awake. We have put lots of blankets in her crate to keep her warm.

Chihuahua always want to be with their owners. If you can put her in a room farther away from your bedroom, where you can't hear the whining or it isn't so loud, maybe you can fall asleep. Believe me I have been in your shoes many times.

Don't put her in bed with you, that will reinforce the behavior (ie she whines and gets what she wants). If she has a crate put her in there and give her treats as soon as she is quiet. Timing is everything. Good luck!

Put it in a kennel crate and set it in another room and close the door.Dogs are like children and will whine whenever they want their way,and if you give in and get it,you'll be sorry,as it will whine everytime it wants its way.

In it's bed but soft blanket in it and wrap up a hot water bottle so it thinks it is with it's mother or but it in your bed. It is whining because it cold and lonesome for it mother.
