Yes..absolutely! You may also have a "dual citizenship" which means you are a citizen in both countries!!!

you can retain your citizenship and live out of the country but you must come back and forth i forget the time frame i thing every two to three years,you can check with immigration to find out for sure

Of course...you will still be a American Citizen....the only time you would need to surrender it, would be to establish citizenship in Australia
