I am writting a research paper for an english class and I have hit a brick wall. I need numerical statistics to prove or disprove which is more likely the cause for schizophrenia, genetics, or enviroment. I have tried every web link known to man with no luck. I am hoping that a researcher will see this question and be able to give me results to a study on this subject. Thank you very much for your help.

Not sure there is a 'nurture' argument as the root cause of schizophrenia. Schizophrenia (and bipolar disorder) show up as an abnormally developed region of the brain on MRI scans, and runs in families. So it would seem to be genetic, and that's the end of it. Genetics will give you predisposition to it, and environment may well trigger it. Nature loads the gun and nurture pulls the trigger.

I have never heard of schizophrenia as being a product of "nurture'. I have read about cases in which someone was predisposed to it and something in their life might have kick started it. It generally starts in late adolescence around 18 years of age but can happen later in life for some. I understand that taking drugs can precipitate a break in which the pre existing problem comes out, too.
Sorry, I don't have any websites to help but only experience in working in an emergency room in which we saw many cases of schizophrenia.

This website should help you, if you haven't already found it.

Generally, parenting as being the cause of schizophrenia has been debunked; it has been found to be a biological disease, not an emotional response to abuse, 'cold' parents or the like.

In the case of the above family situations, there is a greater risk of depression and anxiety, but not schizophrenia.

My child...the spiritual explanation of schizophrenia is that a spirit is attached to the person´s aura and that is why he or she gets the symptoms. The genetics makes that the persons brain work in a certain way that attracts and perceives the spirit. (Normal brains do not experience the spirit). The environment triggers the illness
