I know there have been problems of safety and health on some recent cruises, according to the news stories. I'd like to hear others' experiences, both good and bad. Thanks.

Most cruise lines are basically safe. As long as you use common sense and don't pick fights and don't get hammered, you should be fine.

Health problems occur by chance. Even the most expensive cruise line has a possibility of a communicable disease break out.

As far as friendliness, I have found Carnival to be the worst of the cruise lines I've traveled on. It's generally one of the cheapest, so it attracts a certain clientel. The last Carnival cruise I went on, guests were threatening other guests, harassing gays on another boat, disregarding other people completely, and just generally trashy. We could barely rest in our cabin due to trashy, loud, constantly fighting and smoking neighbors that decided that each morning they needed to be up by 6am. When we mentioned it to the 'purser' and customer service reps, they basically said 'too bad'. The service was mediocre, the food was the same, and the activities were only the most discerning frat party events. A complete and utter disappointment.

JMHO. : )

Most of the Cruise lines are very safe. As far as your personal safety, common sense is your best bet. Follow instructions from the cruise director, go with the ships shore excursions and do go off on your own. The health aspects, well people get sick all the time. I go on 2-3 cruises a year and never had any problems with the Norwalk Virus, seasickness or even a hangover. I cant think of a better vacation then a cruise, you really should go and you will find there is nothing better than a cruise. Best Regards KG

Yes, there are big differences between cruise lines. I have been on Royal Caribbean and also carnival. They are both good, and the services are amazing. They treat their guests as if they were royalty! You should do a web search and find out more about them. There is a site call cruise reviews, you may find out tons of info there. www.cruise-reviews.com
Good luck :)

We just got back on the Noordam (Holland's Cruise Line) and it was great!!!!! Most of the ships are taking care of the health issues by having "Purell Hand Soap" before you enter any dining areas and when you get off and on the ship. Let me know if you need more information or help

Thanks and good luck

I don't know where you are traveling from but I booked mine with my two daughters and we left from Florida and went to Grand Caymen Island, Jamaica and then Cozummel Mexico. The cruise was great on Carnival except you were expected to tip EVERYONE because they are paid so poorly. The people in Jamica held onto us when we tried to shop and wanted our money, the lady on the tour bus in Grand Caymen was in such a hurry we didn't get to see much. But we had alot of fun on ship me being chosen to play survivor with a group of people. It was fantastic and the food was great BUT>>> I'd have traded it all to stay at Margaritaville in Cozummel, Mexico. The people were very nice, you could shop in peace and everything was clean and beautiful. Hope you choose well and have a great trip.

My parents loved the Norweigan Cruise they took last year, in fact they're taking the whole family on a cruise in December (well half of it anyway.)
