this weekend is a perfect time to find activities going on around your school or community. With Halloween on Tuesday, there are lots of functions. You could also do some volunteer work. The school should have some sort of list for volunteering. This is a good way to begin to talk to people. You could also be a big brother or sister to a number of kids.

or you yourself could request a big brother or sister depending on your gender.
You did the first step to get out of depression and loneliness already. you asked yahoo what to do.
I hope these links help you.

I left home at 18 and the same things work for me now as they did then. The suggestion to join a gym is good one. If you are religious find a local church that suits you, and join youth bible studies. Keep lines of communication open to all those who are close to you. The only time I am able to 'visit' with my best friend is phone and email, but those times really help me. A great way is do some sort of community service, help in homeless shelters etc. My favorite is volunteering at local hospitals to visit with people who don't get any visitors and hold baby's in the maternity ward....yes that is something the hospitals need. You will be so surprised at how much helping others takes your mind off of your own problems, plus it fills empty time and you can meet new people. Lastly, again not knowing if you are religious or not, reading the Bible really comforts me. I would start with the Psalms.

It's hard to be away from family for the first time. If you're in a totally different country, it's even harder.
Find safe places to meet new people your age-either through volunteering, going to activities at your school/dorm, a teen activity group or a church/synagogue/whatever your spiritual 'house' might be. This will help you find other people with similar beliefs/interests and would increase your chance of making friends. You could also ask your classmates what they like to do for activities and see if there are any that might interest you.

Keep yourself busy. Don't give yourself too much time to just sit around and think. It's not healthy...
Call some friends and go out, whether to a movie, shopping or just for an ice cream. If you can't get out, make a phone call to a friend you haven't talked too in awhile. You should have plenty to talk about.
Keep your chin up and keep smiling :*)

You could strar by allowing your e-mail. Some people could make contact and you might make some friends. Try to make friends at parties, too. Meet people from your country, to share experiences... In short, you must know people and make friends, otherwise, you´ll keep feeling lonely. Good luck.
