I don't know if this is it or not.. but in the past I have noticed that some programs inhibit the computer's ability to go into powersaver modes such as the screen-saver, hibernate, or stand-by modes. I know some versions of media player will do this while a file is being played. Also some Adobe products will too.

try using the help center that comes with your PC. Is it a downloaded screensaver, or one that comes with the computer...cause some that you download will not work on certain types of computers.
