Butane. I own one.
But you can use anything with a consistent flame.

I've heard of plenty of other people doing the same thing you're doing. It ought to work just fine.
I'm not sure if the store bought torches use butane or propane. Propane might have less of a distinctive odor than butane, but I'm not certain about any of that.

Yep, many professional kitchens use the same torch - just be careful!!!! You can go to Williams Sonoma or your local culinary store for other brands.

yes you can. It's faster, and keeps the rest of the dessert cooler than running it through the crocodile.
