Not usually but it will make it easier for you as all of the prices are Canadian. Because of this the listed price may seem high to you. After you swap them you will get back more Canadian dollars than you had in US $. Only thing is you will have to swap back when you come home.

Another thing to do is just use your credit cards where ever you can. They will take care of the exchange rates for you.

Since Vancouver is in Canada, yes, you will need to change to Canadian dollars. There may be a couple of tourist shops that will accept American dollars, but you won't get the going rate and you'll pay heavily for the privilege.

the american dollar flucuates as does all currency!! today you might get 1000 yen for each dollar and tomorrow only 700... so you have to look at each day... if you know you are going to canada soon and the american dollar brings more canadian then it would be best to get it now,,,etc etc,,, however as for just spending american money in canada,, there is no problem there,,, but you may go on a day when the american dollar is real low and the local market will appear more expensive!!

If you use a Credit Card - you do not need to worry about the currency. If you need a few Canadian Dollars - go to the Royal Bank of Canada or Bank of Nova Scotia and they will change you dollars.

While major stores and businesses, and most others, do take US currency, necause its so close to the US border, you will end up paying more, than if you go to a bank, either side of the border, and exchange it.

Also, I have discovered that I get a better exchange rate if I use a debit card (credit card would be same) to make purchases, and it's a lot easier, then you also don't have cash left over to exchange back. Get $100-200 in Canadian dollars, then use your debit/credit card the rest of the time.

No, most merchants will do the exchange rate. But you'd get a better rate from a bank.

No, but you will get a better rate of exchange if you change it at a bank before you go there.

We always use our credit card when we're out of the country. Much easier! Save your receipts so you can go through them when you get home.
