Right then, do not consider the hype within the media. Firstly it is BIRD flu, the stuff BIRDs get, it will get picked up by way of a human, however provided that that human has very near touch with an affected chook, ie a chook farmer, duck breeder, some thing. Even if chook flu had been to pass over to folks, simply making use of elementary hygiene might ordinarily rather support to kill the ailment off, simply for those who must regularly, positioned your quit your mouth whilst you cough, or sneeze, then wash your hand, regularly wash your fingers whilst you've been to the bathroom, regularly wash your fingers after touching any animal in any respect, adding a human. I wish that is helped.

What do you know about Bird Flu? Are people dying of it now?
Yes, people are getting infected with H5N1 virus (bird flu) and they are dying from it. A woman in Egypt died yesterday.
There have been 109 people who contracted the virus in 2006 and 73 of those people died a horrible death. That’s about 68% death rate.
Most of those people contracted the disease from infected birds, but there have been a few cases of human-to-human transmission.
What we are afraid of is the virus is steadily mutating. Scientists expect that the virus will mutate to become easily transmitted from person to person. When that happens we will have a new disease that no one has immunity to.
There will be no vaccine for at least 9 months – vaccine production can’t even begin until the virus mutates, and when we finally do get vaccine at first it will be reserved for the healthcare workers and first responders who are taking care of flu patients.
We do have antiviral medication, but we don’t know if they will work on this new virus and we only have enough for about 1% of our population.
Just yesterday scientists announced that a new strain has been infecting birds. The vaccine that companies have been working on for birds does not cover this new strain. This means that the virus will probably explode in birds, which increases the likelihood that it will mutate to infect people easily.
Governments across the world are slow to deal with this – it is a huge problem, but the longer we go without action the worse off we will be when it hits.
The UN person in charge of preparation suggests that this will be like an “18 month global blizzard.”
Schools will probably close – possibly for up to 12 weeks at a time to try to keep infection rates down as much as possible. Grocery stores will close because transportation system will go down and they will not be able to get supplies. Churches and other public gathering places will close. It is likely that our electric system will go down because there will not be enough workers to fix problems.
They are expecting that 40% of people may be infected and members of their family will be needed to care for them because hospitals will be too full to take additional patients.
Individuals and families can help themselves by preparing themselves to “shelter in place” during the time that the virus is active in their communities. People will need nonperishable food, water, medicines, baby food, formula, pet food, cleaning supplies, and toilet paper. You can find lists at www.pandemicflu.gov
Many of the government websites suggest people should have 2 weeks of food, but each wave of infection (we are expecting 3 separate waves) will probably last 6 to 8 weeks and people should be able to shelter in place for that time.
If 6 to 8 weeks is more than you can manage, just start somewhere!
No one likes to think about these things, but this is real, and we can influence the outcome by preparing for our families.
