Bottom line is this as an army vet I had the opportunity to work with marines, sailors, and airmen. None are any more tougher than any other branch. Much has to do with where you are from, bacause trust me you will not find an infantryman anywhere that believe he's less tougher than a marine. WE are all brothers in arms. In a barfight marines, soldiers, airmen, and sailors will fight each other, call each other names, and anything else. But let someone else attack a member of the armed forces and trust me you will have to fight us all. As a grunt at Ft. Hood 2/7 Cav we fought with the Armor and Artillery units and we were all army. So you will never find a member of any of the armed forces that doesn't think his branch is better than the others. It is a matter of pride.

Its not that they are tougher. it's they have a tougher image/ The Marine corps although rightfully, hardcore. are not the 911 force they actually claim to be. Yes each branch has rapid deployment troops and always brag about " if you can make it here in "blankly, blank" you can make it anywhere" In actual force readiness the US Army Airborne are the 911 troops of choice, they can be anywhere in the world combat ready wheels up in less than 18 hours! and from that they want MP's combat MP's.. because Mp's are trained in of course military police. but also in infantry, communications, medical, engineering, about 6 different military jobs. do they are the billy bad -butts of the army! But in retrospect the Marines Aren't really tougher it's there image, and some pretty damn good commercials! lol They are more proud to be a Marine than say the air force army or navy. So arrogance my be a factor. But I spent 10 years in the Army as a combat MP! lol and i never seen a Marine until we, the airborne, had cleared the way and set up camp. hope it helps.

Marines are the original force multiplier's. They (we) have an unsurpassed esprit de corp matched by many but exceeded by none. (just a shout out to the new US military)
In other words you are either a marine or your not.
If your a jarhead and you yell "Marine in Trouble" you will never be alone if there is another marine around that can hear you.
I won't go into the details but I was in deep shitt with a personal problem about five years ago and my car broke down. I had to start walking and running to get to where i needed to go. I had ten minutes to get five miles down the road. Suddenly I came upon a guy chopping firewood, he was bent over stacking the wood and above him was an American flag flying in the wind, below that flag was the Marine Corp Flag.
I had been out of the corp for over twenty years but the first thing I thought of was my drill instructor telling us about the sacred creed of the marines (one of them, and this is mostly applicable to barroom brawls) if you need help let the other marines in the area know. I saw that guy and that flag and I ran up to him yelling MARINE IN TROUBLE!
For about two seconds he looked like he was trying to decide if he should kick my butt, then he completely changed his demeanor and said to me, what can I do for you?
I gave him a brief explanation about how I had to get down the road and why. He said follow me. We walked over to his garage, he lifted up the door and there was this souped up Ford pickup truck. He said hop in, I did.
For the next few minutes we drove over a hundred miles an hour to get where I needed to go.
I was on time. That's what being a marine is all about....Esprit de Corp...Semper Fi...do or die!

OK, this is coming from an Army guy, but the Marines have always had to be tougher because they are a smaller group and have always been asked to do more, with less. My hat's off to them and God bless them all.
PS
My Grandson is a Marine.

A Marine is not tougher than any soldier, SEAL, Ranger, or any other individual in the military. They are trained and conditioned to do their job. No job is more or less important than the next. Put an office clerk in a combat situation, and by the end of the day, he or she will probably be freaked out and cowering in a corner. Put a combat personnel in a room of filing cabinets and tell them to collate files, and by the end of the day, he or she will probably be freaked out and cowering in a corner.

Every individual that gladly put on the uniform of the United States is to be commended. It depends on who you ask and if they served.
Marines believe they are the toughest as it is drilled into them every day in boot camp.
Sailors are told the same thing. As are soldiers in the Army. And members of the Air Force.

Because the Marines are required to have more capabilities than the rest of the military. In other words, they are the conventional Navy SEALs meaning they are the military's Sea, Air, and Land force all rolled into one, not to mention they have the longest and toughest basic training program.
