I was taking Zoloft and gained about 20 lbs. I recently switched to Prozac hoping to lose weight, and in turn, gained another 8 lbs. I diet as well as work out 5 sometimes 6 times a week. Nothing is working. I am actually starting to get more depressed from the weight gain. I am heavier now, than I've ever been. I use to think I'd rather be fat and happy than skinny and depressed. Not Any More. This is too much. Can anyone give me some positive advice. If I stop taking depression meds will I be able to lose all this weight? Or is there something else I can do?

I have talked to my doctor and my pharmacist about my concerns. My doctor told me to continue diet and exercise, my pharmacist said that diet and exercise probably wouldn't help me lose the weight, just stay healthy. I know that I am ready to come off the medication, I just would like some positive feedback on the weight loss afterward.

Some people lose the weight and others do not. Continue on your diet and exercise.
There is one OTC diet pill: Xenical, you might want to talk to your MD or pharm about it.

How should I take fluoxetine?

Follow all directions on your prescription label. Your doctor may occasionally change your dose to make sure you get the best results. Do not take this medicine in larger or smaller amounts or for longer than recommended.
Do not crush, chew, break, or open a delayed-release capsule. Swallow it whole.
Measure liquid medicine with a special dose-measuring spoon or medicine cup. If you do not have a dose-measuring device, ask your pharmacist for one.
It may take up to 4 weeks before your symptoms improve. Keep using the medication as directed and tell your doctor if your symptoms do not improve.
Do not stop using fluoxetine suddenly, or you could have unpleasant withdrawal symptoms. Ask your doctor how to safely stop using fluoxetine.
To treat premenstrual dysphoric disorder, the usual dose of fluoxetine is once daily while you are having your period, or 14 days before you expect your period to start. Follow your doctor's instructions.
Store at room temperature away from moisture and heat.
