I've had contacs for over 40 years. When I started out, they were the hard lenses. These soft lenses are a breeze. I had friends who couldn't wear them, and went back to their glasses.
I think it is a mind thing. If you hate glasses as much as I did, you could do almost anything to get over the pain. You'll get used to it. Ask your doctor why you have the pain. It might not be a good fit. When I put a clean lens in, it's almost like my eye say , "Ahhhh".
As for cleaning, follow your doctor's advice, and never, ever handle them with dirty hands or with chemicals on your hands (ex: hair gel, nail polish remover, etc.)

You'll be ok when you put them in yourself, as you know how gently you need to do it. I've been wearing contacts for 10 years, and now wear the monthly disposable lenses, which you wear continuously day and night for 28 days, before taking them out for 12 hours, and then putting a new pair back in. The most important thing is to ensure your hands are extremely clean, to avoid getting a nasty eye infection.
Good luck!

Contact lenses are soooo frightening when you get them first. I'm 25 and started wearing them six months ago. Let me tell you now....THEY ROCK! You just have to get over the whole sticking stuff in your eye fear. They probably only hurt because you were nervous and they were difficult to put in. Relax, get to know them. Practice with them, if you waste some you waste some. Soon you'll be specs free and feeling great!

I have been wearing lenses for nearly 30 years and they were like bricks in my eyes when I started out. If you are serious about ditching the glasses, persevere. One hour a day and build it up. I now wear daily disposable soft lenses and they are wonderful a new sterile pair everyday and I often forget I have them in they are so good.

It's alright! Don't panic. When I first got mine, I was really frustrated because I couldn't get them in. Yes, it did hurt at first, but only because I wasn't used to them yet.
What you do is you wash your hands before putting them on and you place on one your pointer finger. Then use both middle fingers to keep your eyelids open while you gently place the contact lens on your eye. Remember to keep your other eye open too. Then blink slowly to make sure that it stays in.
To keep mine clean, I just use new solution every day and put the cap on it so that it doesn't dry out. :]

When I first got contacts, I was so eager to finally get them I put them on in a snap with little trouble.
I use Acuvue 2, they are great, comfortable lenses.
To keep them clean, just follow the directions on the bottle.

yeah i agree to those advices..plus! for a first time user, never ever wear long nails coz u might tear the contact lenses and you may even scratch your eyes once you remove your lenses...dont want to get blind if i were you:) once you get the hang of it, keeping your eyes to stay open is a breeze. i noticed that i can control how long my eyes can stay open after that ergo very very easy lens application :) just be patient, keep those hands clean as you can, open your eyes and poof! you got coco krunch...lol

get used to washing your hands a lot! wear the lenses for one hour on day one, then two on day two, ect.. and build it up gradually. the biggest obsticle to putting them in properly is your eyelashes, so pull your eye wide and place them gently in.

that's why I just wear glassess. There eaiser to clean and quicker to put on. You also don't have to worry about the chemicals getting into your eye to clean the lens.
