As a part of a culture exchange I will be attending church services at an LDS stake tomorrow. I am female and unsure of what to wear. I know I have to wear a dress or skirt and I assume it should be "modest" but what lenght are we talking here? Ankle, between the knee and ankle? I'm totally lost and I don't want to offend my classmate or anyone at the service. Thanks.

Modest dress . . . skirt/dress to the top of the knee or lower. Preferably a top with a minimum of short/cap sleeves. Any neckline is appropriate as long as it is not plunging. (Not appropriate to show breasts or have a top so short the belly is exposed.) Clothing material should not be see-through. Hose is optional.

Enjoy! You will find our services different since we do not have ministers or paid ministers. Members receive various callings and those are not lifelong. Different members will have been asked in advance to prepare a talk (little sermon) on a subject. (Some are better speakers than others.) You will more than likely hear both men, women and youth speak.

We do have the Sacrament (communion) on Sundays. Occasionally there will be a Sunday service without the Sacrament. If the Sacrament is being passed, it is to renew your covenants at baptism. Since you have not been baptized a member, it would not be appropriate for you to take the Sacrament. If you are sitting within a row, just pass the tray along to the next person.

Write me if you have more questions.

I'm happy at your willingness to learn more of other cultures and beliefs. Either a dress or a skirt below the knee is considered appropriate at an LDS meeting. Blouses, if worn, should not be transparent or sheer for obvious reasons.

I have seen young women wear denim skirts to services. So long as the clothing is neat, clean, and covers skin that should not show you will be all right.

I hope you enjoy the visit.

Nothing specific, you could wear denim if you really want. I wouldn't suggest anything higher then the knees, but that goes without saying. you are right it should be "modest", but wear whatever feels comfortable; your friend shouldn't be offended, and I really doubt anyone will be. If they are, then they should have informed you on what to wear. Not to mention, their minds and hearts probably aren't quite as open as they should be. You'll be fine, good luck.

An LSD church? Wow! I guess you could wear tie-dye.

Oh, wait. You said LDS. Sorry. No clue.

between knee and akle is fine.....with hose and conservative shoes...Make sure your neckline is high.

Good luck, I was raised LDS and it is tough to get used to.
