Why do people treat their dogs like little babies and never lay the smack down?

Why do people act like giving a dog a little swat on the *** is child abuse. You do remember that dogs live in the wild and if they piss another dog off they will get bitten in the face. Dogs in the wild will get bitting all the time, why should they come in a home in be treated like 2 month old infant baby?

very simple:

when U hit a dog, just as when U hit a child, the only thing that U have "taught" the hitee is that the hit-er is not a nice person, and not to be trusted.

since our pets, whether they are dogs or cats or herps or equines or X, all need to be handled, especially when they are ill or in pain, they need to trust NOT ONLY their owner, handler or family, but the vet, the vet tech, the groomer, the neighbor, the kid on the sidewalk, etc etc,

We Need To Find A Better Way To Communicate Than With A Slap. Or a kick, or a pinch of an ear.
YES - even a retrieve can be taught WITHOUT pain-based compulsion.

we are the ones with opposable thumbs, and always bragging about our big brains...
there -are- Better Ways to Teach an animal... or a child! ... than a swat.

You just answered your own question. If you piss a dog off you may be bit. Dogs do not understand or take kindly to being swatted. They are dogs, not children.

Because dogs learn better with rewards then punishment. The dog also will be more loving if you teach them with rewards and more protective of you. Dogs have their own language if you learn the physical cues that teach you how to communicate with your dog you will have a good obiedent companion. Its usually the stupid owner not the dog thats causing the problem.

my dog is not only my service dog, he is my best friend, he's there when I need him, he's always at my side ready to do my bidding, take care of me etc. How would you like it if your best friend swatted you on the a** for doing something you consider natural? Man domesticated this animal should it not be mans place to take care of him, Why on earth would anyone want to hit aka swat anything or anyone, human and animal alike?

Because your average pet owner has no idea how to relate to animals. I don't know exactly when it was people stopped learning how to manage animals, but it is very sad.

Instead, you now have people treating their dogs like 'furbabies' and bribing them to do what they want with treats. And then people wonder why there are so many dog bites/attacks. Well...DUH!

Have you EVER seen a canine pack leader BRIBE a member of their pack???

Of course, with a very 'soft' dog you wouldn't want to use harsh methods.

Because I would like the flesh on my face to stay right where it is. And because I like the loving, trusting relationship I have with my dog.

I bet my dog is better behaved than you are and I never smacked her once.

I dont know you but i treat my baby chihuahua like a real child and i DO spank him when he is in the wrong but i dont see why u would want to hurt them. I love my dog he is my closest companion. He gives and gets love in return. the question is... Would you hit a Child? kids hit other kids just as dogs bite other dogs. think about it. u answered ur own question.

a little swat won't hurt anybody whether dog or child!!! i usually take a newspaper and hit the wall or sth cause dogs are scared of the noise more than a smack!!i try to avoid smacking dog or child!!!

the ones your talking about are inthe wild.. the ones we have in our homes are pets......it takes a real coward to hit a little animal. if you and others want to hit something;;go buy a punching bag ...................
