He acts like he doesnt want to jump up onto things very much either but he has jumped on the couch. When he threw up once, there was a small piece of onion in there. He also got a few ant bites this morning, so I thought maybe one of those 2 things could be it, but I am really not sure. Anyone have any ideas? He has eaten/drank a little bit but he is just NOT himself. :-(

I know he didnt get more than a very tiny piece of an onion because it was just 1 that I had dropped when I was cooking earlier. And he only got about 3 ant bites and they were a bit swollen at first, but I put some aloe on them and they went away. We can't afford to take him to an ER vet unless it's VERY serious... so I am going to keep a close eye on him of course, but hopefully won't have to bring him in til MOnday. Thanks for the replies...

You should take the dog to the vet!!! But if you can't because you are broke, get some liquid benadryl and give only a baby dose. Because this is a small breed. Sounds like you or someone gave something the dog is allergic too, onions are not good for dogs anyway. Smaller breeds usually have more sensitive stomachs. If it continues and he gets dehydrated or diarrhea he could die. Go to the vets if you can. Make sure he gets water too!! Very important.

You need to take him 2 the vet. He could have ingested some kind of poison or even have a genetic disorder that is showing symptoms now. Most likely he is sick or has eaten something he might be allergic to. Hope he gets better!

Onions cause hemolytic anemia in dogs, which means the red blood cells that carry oxygen to the body are being destroyed. Might be the reason for his lethargy. To the Vet's STAT!

Lethargy, tremors, and vomiting are all signs of seizure. You dog may be having an allergic reaction, or may be showing the initial signs of epilepsy. We suggest you get him to your vet as quickly as you can.

Hemorrhagic Gastroenteritis (also called HGE) is characterized by lots of blood in very runny stools. From your description, we doubt if it's this... but it could still be something very serious.

Vet. Now.

It is impossible to reliably diagnose a health problem over the internet. PLEASE take your dog to the vet if his health or energy does not improve. With small dogs, what can start as something small can get really bad really fast. Keep a close watch on him and if he continues to deteriorate, find the nearest emergency vet.

When my dog was doing that, I took her to the vet, and the vet said if we had waited 48 hours, she would have died. The condition was called "hemorrhagic gastroenteritis." Fatal if undetected for too long, or untreated.

Please see your vet.

He could have had a seizure. Take him to the vet a.s.a.p. Since it's the weekend, there is always an emergency pet hospital that is open.
