KIDS DO BEST ON A SCHEDULE!
The sooner you get them all on one the better. It would be best if they all layed down at the same time, so noone thinks they are missing out on the action. Kids usually like music, play some classical while you are getting them ready for bed, then they will start to remember this means it's time for bed. Afterward, in the bed and lights out.
Some people think nightlights are good. NOOO! The kids look around and the brain doesn't shutdown=they take longer to go to sleep. Unless they are really afraid.
I have 2 close together, it worked for me.

I would first ask the parents what they usually do for a nighttime routine.
I would give a warm bath to them all. Brush all of theirs teeth and then ead a couples of books and then put the youngest in bed first, have the oldest bid him goodnight. If he cries to not tend to him for 5 minutes. Go back, soothe him and lay him down. And if he continues to cry, go back every 5 minutes for up to 30 mintues, then make it 10 minutes intervals. He will fall asleep on his own I promise. Just give him time.
Meanwhile put the other two to bed and assure them you will be back in 10 minutes to check on them. If they get out of bed just put them back in. Dont say anything just nicely put them back into bed and walk away. Repeat until they stay in bed.
This is of course for the MOST dramatic bedtime any babysitter can imagine. Hopefully they wont miss mom and dad so much that they give you a hard time.
Good luck.
Most recommend milks and that, but I would advise against this. You dont know what kind of fight they will give you. If they cry too hard they may throw up. And you REALLY dont want to deal with crying children and thrown up milk.

The easiest way to solve this problem is asking the parents. If the children have set bedtimes then the parents should have a routine they fallow. This will help the children realize it is time for bed and that doesn't change because you are there. No matter what you do stick to it and don't give in. This will just make them try to get you to every time.

Bath the four and three year old at 7pm, give both a warm cup of milk, this helps to relax them. The 1 year old might be a little harder, but bath him, bottle him, when you are in between burping and feel that he is done with that. Rub the middle of his back with a firm hand, and then in a circular motion. Take your fingertips and rub them up the middle of his back and back down. Repeat for about 8 or 9 times, you might notice him nodding at that time. Good luck...........

Bath or snack. Then he should go down. Make sure you say goodnight in a way that he knows what is going on, then keep the other kiddies quiet, or have them start getting ready for bed. Really all three could go down at 8pm. DO NOT exercise them, it will make them overtired and keep them up. Read a story that they choose and then tuck them in and turn out the lights. Do this every time, so they get used to your rountine.

If you are babysitting 3 young children you definately should not be on the computer asking these questions for one.
Second, you should take the baby to him room, lay him in his bed and read him a story until he falls asleep.
If that doesnt work then just paly with him until he wears himself out and just falls out on the floor, then put him in his bed.
But, you really need to get off of the computer and pay attention to those children.

Make sure he is fed, cleaned, and freshly diapered. Then put him in bed, shut off the light, and leave the room. No matter how much he cries, fusses, etc, do not go back in until he is asleep.
