I took in a stray and I'm trying to figure out her breed. She is blue point of some sort with long hair, flat face, and small ears. Would she be a himalayan or a persian. Or are those both the same thing?

Yes himalayans and Persians are the same. Himalayan is one of the 7 color categories of the Persian cat.

If you really want a himalayan then yes, pay for it. $400 is pretty cheap. But if the breeder is offering kittens less than 10 weeks old walk away. No breeder should be offering you a kitten less than 13 weeks. The kitten should be fully vaccinated, in good health, the breeder should be able to show you the pedigree and registration papers and the kitten should be sold with a contract of sale that requires you to neuter him (if not already done) and includes a health guarantee. The parents should also have been tested for PKD which is quite common in Persian cats. If the breeder does not do all of this, chances are she is a backstreet breeder and you should walk away, no matter how cute the kittens are. Under no circumstances should you accept a sick kitten, even if the breeder says it is 'just a cold' or something and will clear up. Also make sure the kittens (and adult cats) seem friendly and well socialised. There's a lot to be said for adopting a cat or kitten from a rescue and kitten season is coming up soon, so it depends whether you really want a himalayan. If you do, then go for it. If you are only considering this kitten because you can't find one elsewhere, then I would continue to look in rescues - you'll eventually find a kitten or cat that's right for you.

Your cat sounds like a blue-point Himalayan.

Himalayan is a popular division of the Persian breed. They were developed by breeding Persians & Siamese to get the Siamese coloration on the face and extremeties. See the link for photos and more descriptions.

yes and no, in the past himalayan looked alot like a long-nosed, colorpoint longhair. They then started breeding more of the Persian body and less of the Siamese, so now the himmy looks like a persian body style.

Himalayan is a specific breed, looks like a long haired siamese. A persin is a different breed, they are not the same.

Hi, I always thought that Himalayan was the name of the pattern in a Persian cat.

She sounds very much like a Himalyan patterned Persian cat to me. AND the breedersonline website seems to agree.

Good luck with her

Himalayans faces aren't completely flat like persians are.

They are different breeds. Do a search on the internet and you'll be able to tell the difference.
