Unfortunately reality is had they wanted to do this then they already would have and the homeless are still freezing. Start a drive in your neighborhood,church or workplace and take them to the shelters who will hand them out to those who need or if you or friend etc have a van,truck take coats and go to the places where homeless hang and pass the coats out. You can approach corporations,stores and the such even grocery stores for each has a yearly budget for charitable causes which is renewed in , I believe ,in January but there may still be money for but its not that long before Christmas when most charity contributions occur. Can also approach churches for them-be a guest and make a plea, to do a warm clothing and even a food drive for the shelters are always in need. Or you may request a donation through a special Sunday Collection from the priest,minister. If you know or ever do know someone that is in danger of losing home and so on. The Saint Vincent DePaul Society of the Catholic Church and every church has its own chapter will pay rent,food,utility until the person is again able or it runs out of money-larger churches naturally have more funding. Am a meamber and know they do this and if the money is there will respond for committed to helping the poor,unfortunates of the world, They will even contact other chapters to help them to continue helping the same person. God Bless You for Caring and to help your cause

Well Gregg ;
You could start at the Salvation army, or your own business collegues. I am not sure if you havd drop in centers where you are but this is a good place to clothe the homeless.
In Calgary Alberta Canada we have a winter jacket rally at the end of August ( Garage Sale madness) as the children prepare to return to school. This has proven to be a very good time to gather winter clothes. However in Calgary our homeless live out on the streets at -30 Celcius.
One of the major benifactors to the winter coat campaign are the Motorcycle clubs ( Not all Hells Angels ) although they too do their part.
Our local CFL team the Calgary Stampeders and our Calgary Flames all hold special events for winter coats.
As for your closing statement regarding the manufacturers who have fled North America, in a nutshell the reason they left was economically simple....They could stay and be squeezed by Unions and raise the cost of selling their product to match the incredulous demands of powerful unions. Point in case....The average hourly cost for a Detroit Auto worker( including benifits and inducements ) was benchmarked at $75 U.S.(2001 ) - multiplied by the number of workers,and then the average hours per work week, then multiply by 4 ..... If you do the math it is staggering! Who pays those costs? the Consumer, the very people who force the cost of products up to earn a decent wage.
economics are a delicate balance and " for every action, there is an equal and opposite reaction" is a good rule of thumb.
Now produce the item at a cost of $75 U.S. per month,per person and you can sell your product for 50% cheaper and corner the market, however those workers were not much different from our ancestors.

The answer to your question is so simple it is baffling why you can't figure it out. Go to Wal Mart and buy a big warm coat made in Vietnam and give it to a homeless person.
Or if you are really concerned about keeping the homeless warm take up a collection and buy them a bus ticket to Miami or Brownsville, TX or Puerto Rica.

Around my area our local churches or banks organize "coat drives" and distribute them to the missions in the city. I also know that if you call your local Salvation Army or Goodwill I am sure some one will be able to assist you. Try looking up the places I mentioned on yellowbook.com to see if those places are available in your area.
You are a very thoughtful individual
God bless you and I pray you find the info you need

If it is just one person that you have in mind, then it would be a nice jewture for you to buy it for him. If there are several people involved, then contact a local church, if you do not belong to one. Or, contact a local homeless shelter. The Salvation Army is an outlet, although you will have to pay to get one.

Actually I used to vollunteer at our church several weekends thru the winter months. It required setting up cots and places to sleep, preparing and service food (which we purchased out of our own pockets) and cleaning up afterwards, having entertainment through out the evening. Making certain every one was tucked in for the night. Then the next morning making breakfast, serving and cleaning up. So I think you could consider that keeping someone warm, although not in the same way as you have done. Yours is truly lovely.

i really dont know how to answer your initial question other than to tell you to go buy them one. you should go into advertising. get a free iq test and have to pay to get the results. the only way to battle this kinda thing is boycott the companys that do this. there is strength in numbers, unfortunately the american people have forgotten that. we, as a whole, could do just about anything we want, but we wont. insurance rates sky rocketing? stop paying them. they cant put everyone in jail. same with taxes, fuel prices ect. as a nation, we have become spineless to our own. we can go overseas and give our lives for someone we will never see, but we cant stand up for ourselves. pretty sorry, but i think it will eventually lead to our demise. think of it, we have wealthy people as our representatives. wrong. you need everyday people in there that havent lost touch with reality. you dont need a law degree to figure out right from wrong. im for total reformation of the us goverment. it needed it years ago. give me liberty, or give me death.

All you need to do is send the person to one of the millions of charitable thrift shops and they will have a coat for themselves and their children. That is what they are there for. I've seen it done. You have a problem with profits? Go to a communist country, we prefer our capitalistic economy here. The homeless will probably end up have a nicer a coat. I know Judges and CEO's who shop at thrift stores for articles of clothing. If they are good enough for them, they are good enough for anyone.

Don't volunteer other peoples money...
