In the Philadelphia area it is around $300 at most if this is including extractions. But if it's just a cleaning without really nasty infected teeth and bad gingivitis then at the least $150. Although owners might realize it a dental cleaning and a good diet are two of the most important things in having a pet with a long and happy life.

Seriously, dont' shop based on cost. Ask your Vet how much is included. It can be risky to have this procedure done because of the sedation. Things that make anesthesia safer should be included if the cost is higher, and at least offered if the cost is lower. A good quality dental cleaning should have the following...

1. Pre anesthetic lab work. A physical exam is a good start but underlying conditions such as kidney or liver disease (which can be present even if an animal "looks" healthy) can make surgery more risky.

2. Sevoflurane anesthesia, also injectable induction. Sevoflurane is cleared through the lungs and it makes recovery easier.

3. Surgical monitoring and correction. A pulse-oxygen meter or an EKG can detect problems earlier. I won't do surgery without them.

4. Antibiotics if teeth are pulled.

5. A plan for post-op pain management.

In my clinic in the midwest, we charge about 200$ for a dental with some teeth extractions. We even stage it according to a pet's dental health.

nationwide, this process ranges between 75$ and around $400 depending on the clinic.

Seriously, look for the best medicine because cheaper isn't as good if the Vet is taking short-cuts. They should at least give you the option of declining things to make it cheaper. Ask lots of questions and trust your vet. Remember it's not like getting an oil-change.

Good luck!

A general cleaning is anywhere from $85 - $ 200 depending on the vet you go to; what kind of anethesia you ask for and whether or not they monitor your cat while on anethesia and whether or not the cat needs a blood test (I would ask that if your cat is a senior). Vets that specialize on cats tend to charge more. My cat's last teeth cleaning cost me $165.00 becuase I asked for monitoring; Isuflurane gas anethesia; and flouride treatment after the cleaning. That was separate from the blood test which cost $50.00 (my cat is 8 years old).

I just had a cat done last week. He was a rescue and had severe dental disease. His mouth was so painful he had stopped eating.

The breakdown:

gas anesthesia $105
dental prophylaxis 76
dental extraction 75 (severely abcessed tooth)
injection (analgesic) 35
injection (antibiotic) 31
dental x-ray 25

So your cat may just require the first two on the list. Other costs would be on an as-needed basic.

That's Marin Co. CA

In my area on the west coast, it runs around $200.00 ball park. They will give the cat a physical first to determine he is in good health before giving him an anesthetic. Good for you for tending to his health needs. You'll have a healthier and happier pet!

i brush my own cat's teeth. all you need to do is get a small-headed toothbrush and cat toothpaste from a pet store (some where from 5 to 10 dollars) and then you just brush their teeth! its much cheaper then actually going to a vet to get it done (my vet has a 40 dollar visit fee *gasp*)
