Our aunts little dog was alwasy growling and snapping at everyone and when he growled at this little girl she yelled NO! and smacked it in the head. The dog yelped and went away and after a few days the little dog liked the girl the most out of everyone in the house. it was the strangest thing. makes me think a good smack is what a dog needs sometimes

Usually a stern 'No,' is all that is needed. Sometimes a corrective tug on a lease or other minor correction may be needed.

battery whether on a human or a dog is never good - who likes a good smack in the head ; how many dogs have turned b/c they are mistreated ; love, patience and the tone of voice is what works best. First, the dog was probably guarding territory and was never properly instructed in good behavior. It is usually not a bad dog just improper training by the owner

the dog growls and snaps at anyone it thinks is below her in status.
the little girl showed the dog who is boss and so now the dog is subservient to her. she is now considered the leader of the dogs pack.
dogs that are spoiled (and i suspect your aunts dog is) and not disciplined tend to lean toward the nippy side.
so if he snaps at you again spank it and tell it NO!!
good luck with the aunt though! wink. lol

the dog isnt properly socialized.. most little dogs are not.. most owners of little dogs fail to recognize the importance of taking small dogs to Obedience lessons to learn proper social skills... little dogs are more snappy than big ones and often are leading biters of kids becuase of this (seldom reported because its often the family pet)

sometimes a smack helps.. sometimes not.. what works for one dog will not work for all

without hitting the dog and saying no in a strong, dominant voice is good punishment. you can always tune into the "The Dog Whisperer" and watch CEASAR do his thing.

Roll a newspaper up, and with a steady voice and arm, smack it across the head...it never fails... :)
