I own a Chevy Cavalier and want to add speakers into the trunk, leaving the factory one in and just adding a box with 4 speakers into the back, problem is the store told me I needed an amplifier, but saw the price and said no way to that. So my question is is there any way to bypass the amplifier and go straight from the radio/cd player into the speakers directly? I think it is, just don't know how!!!

Seems you are looking for bass improvement. There are 2 ways of doing it without an extra amp.

TWO WIRE METHOD. DONE THIS FOR MY OWN CAR. Speakers inside new box should be connected in series so you end up with a box having only two input wires to connect. Run any one wire from the new box to right former rear speaker. Run the other wire from new box to the left former rear speaker. Both box wires go to plus or positive. Connect one to positive left rear speaker and the other to positive right rear speaker.

You'll want to try FADER setting until a pleasing balance is reached. However, music volume will probably be the same or even lower depending on efficiency of speaker drivers inside new box but you'll get deeper bass.

FOUR WIRE METHOD. DONE THIS FOR A FRIEND.
Connect speakers inside new box in serial pairs (Four speakers, make two pairs). You end up with a box having four input wires. Now run one wire pair to left rear speaker and the other pair to right rear speaker. Connect observing polarity.

You'll want to play a little with FADER setting until you get a pleasing sound.

You'll want to choose hi-effiency speakers to put inside new box. Brands like JBL, Cerwin-Vega, etc. sound loud as hell with a few watts. But they're usually expensive when new. Albeit they can also be used later if you choose to use additional power amplification.

Is very important when wiring speakers inside box in series to connect from one driver positive to next driver negative and so on. Final result is only two wires, one negative and the other positive.

You sound like someone who enjoy experimenting. Good !

Happy listening!

Experimenting is good.
Just connect a set of speaker wire from each speaker in the back into the box with the subwoofer in it. If you have two subs then make sure the polarity is correct (+to+ and -to-). If your not sure then blindly hook it up and if you get no to very little bass then flip the wires going to ONE subwoofer.

You will soon realize that you need an amplifier because you will get very little bass.

Your cavalier makes use of 4x6" audio equipment interior the front doors, yet adapters are available in which will help you to placed 5.25" or some 6.5" audio equipment in that area. Metra's area volume for the adapter is 80 2-3300. you do not ought to apply an amplifier for change audio equipment, except they are 2-ohm audio equipment. in spite of the indisputable fact that, you are able to in a lot of situations strengthen the sound high quality in case you make the most of an amp.
