It's a self-esteem issue, not to mention a health issue...then there's that whole being able to fit in the seat of an airplane or a roller coaster... ya know, every day things.

I guess it depends on what you mean by skinny. If you define skinny as being in a healthy weight range, then I think the most important reason is simply your health. Being overweight can cause hypertension which increases the risk of heart problems, aneurysm, and stroke. There is a direct link between type II diabetes (non insulin dependent) and obesity. Those are the reasons I try hard to maintain a weight inside a normal range, and it has nothing to do with the media.

I don't know the exact reasons, but I would guess it has a lot to do with the media portraying skinny women as more desirebale, more successful. It is as if skinny = social power and women feel they must conform to fit in and be accepted. I think it's sickening and I am happy being size 8 and curvy (not fat). Being stick thin does not appeal to me and I think women need to make up their own minds, rather than being influenced by media and society. I guess that is hard when 10 year olds see shows such as America's Next Top Model and hearing their mother complain she is fat when she is a size 4.....guess you gotta expect it really. HTH.

Skinny is technically defined as being "healthy", aka, recommended body weight due to height and amount of fat in body. So, it's simple, we want to be skinny b/c it's healthy and it's not going to give us health issues down the road. Of course, there' s a fine difference between the healthy skinny and the anorexic skinny...but you should get my point.

Its this horrible age were living in! its just not fair, in most countries skinny is a sign of lower social class and unattractive to the males but our society is pathetic, sure girls aloud are pretty but have u seen thier legs? my 2 yr old has fatter legs its just gross! I personally prefer my man with a bit of meat on him, i dont want to hug skeletor!! yuk!!
As for posh spice gross! she looks like a lollipop, with the big hair and boobs on a 9yr olds body, I hate this image and what it does to young girls cos ive been upset by it many a time and my body shape will NEVER be skinny, its not the way im made, and this media hype makes me so angry as i have a little girl who will have to grow up and feel bdgered to be thin.
We all come in different shapes n sizes! i think nigella lawson is soo much sexier than a rake in a dress who looks like a primary school child xxx

It's nice when you can get to a point where you don't have to succumb and be anything you don't want to be.
It's a warped world we live in and the media has done this to women....be thin...surgery to perfect you...pills to help you starve...pills to cure you....why do women allow the media to do this and why would anyone want to live this way?
Just feel happy with you are and you will find that you have made the right decision.

Because society says that skinny=healthy, sexy, blah, blah, blah. That isn't necessarily the case. You can be heavy and healthy as well and men/women (of course not all) do find some heavy people attractive.

+ you don't have to keep buying new clothes as you get wider
+ uses less gas when you drive yourself around
+ you can see your shoes while standing up
+ you can feed a friend with one value meal
+ moving around is not the end of the world
+ less fat and cholesterol in your arteries
+ you are more efficient with manual work
+ you can accomplish more by not being overly tired with such things as standing up and breathing

Because skinny generally means you look better in clothes. You feel better about yourself when you're skinny. IMO

i don't feel the need to be skinny, but i do feel the need to be healthy. and my healthy lifestyle leads to a slim figure, which makes me more confident in a bikini, which helps my self esteem, which makes me more attractive.
