My cat is very smart and easy to handle with and he listens quite well i need to know how to teach him to get things for me, does any one know how? ( i have already looked on how to train cats on webpages and i would rather get a written answer than a link)

Kittens will often fetch things, especially toys. Just toss and give a treat when he brings it back. If the cat is older, try starting off by tossing treats.

Find a toy that your cat would love. And catnip works very well. Let your cat sniff it and inspesct it if it seems like your cat really likes it start throwing it the cat will most likely run after it. Then have some tuna or something and your cat will see you with the tuna and go over to you if he doesnt come over with it in his mouth dont let have the treat and try to put in his mouth and make him come over with it in his mouth. If he does come with it in his mouth give him the tuna or treat. I know this may take a while but it worked with my kitty.

I am presently trying to teach my 15 month old kitten to fetch without any luck. I solved this problem by tossing the kitten across the wooden floor. He loves it and always comes back for more. Better than fetching, don't you think. Now we are both enjoying ourselves without the fetching frustration. Try it. (PS, don't try this after grooming your cat - static electricity is a real b---h).

Yes you can, I taught our kitty to fetch. I started throwing a little ball(sponge ) against the wall so it would come back to me and Missy would run back & forth, then I didn't throw it so hard so she could get it and when she did she brought it back and dropped it in front of me to throw it. We did that every evening for a few days and then after around the same time in the evening she would get the ball and bring it to me.
We had lots of fun! When she got tired of playing she'd take the ball and hide it till next time.
Have fun! You'll really enjoy playing with your kitty & watching the different antics she does to get the ball.

I disagree with everyone who says to get a dog ... my kitten is about 8 months old and he will catch toys or treats in his mouth, and also if you throw any toy he just runs back to us with it to throw it again ... he can go on for hours ... although i didn't set out to teach him to "fetch" he just did it on his own

Well i hear dogs are pretty good at fetching stuff. Why don't you ask one of them. If you need a translator perhaps you could ask Mr Ed. or Dr Dolittle even.
P.S. i hate cats.

Well, it will be real hard if you don't have a bengal cat. www.bengalcat.com . Catnip would work well, and a toy they were internested in could help some.
