I am so sorry you have this right now. Seriously. It is not a generally known fact that if you take a little sip of mouthwash, and swallow it, it will instantly kill all the bacteria in the deeper parts of your throat. An author told me that one, and it works. It only has to be a very tiny sip, and you slosh it around in your mouth as usual and then swallow just a small amount of it and as it goes down, it kills all the bacteria in the lower parts of your throat that just gargling cannot reach. You already know that hot tea will make you drowsy. With added honey, even moreso. Finding something positive to be thinking, about to latch on to, will also improve your mood, and it won't make the flu any better, but it will make the moment a little easier to sit through. Again, I am sorry you have this. The last thing I can tell you that will speed things up is to use a salt water gargle to loosen up your throat and cough. My family doctor said there is nothing, not even over the counter medicines, that will work as well to heal a sore throat than 1/4 teaspoon of salt in a 6 ounce glass of reasonably warm almost hot water. Gargle every hour. It stimulates the body to produce more salilva which helps to flush out all the problems you are having. It will also loosen the stuff in your nasal passages. If your chest develops that awful cough-cough thing later, a dry, repetitive double cough thing, sleep downstairs in the recliner, so your lungs are in the upright position and toss a lightweight blanket over yourself and just get through it. Sent with healing energies and a lot of compassion from Chris, 'way over here in South Portland, Maine, U.S.A. (I am 63 years old, and I know that every little thing you do to help yourself makes it all get over with quicker.)

Chicken soup sweety! The hot salty soup opens up your sinuses, disinfects and makes you feel a whole lot better. Drink orange juice, cranberry juice too and stay hydrated with plenty of water to flush those germs out of your body faster. It will take a good week to bounce back after a flu. So just eat healthy and rest a lot till you are better, and remember the soups and hot teas!

Use a vapor chest rub and put it all over your chest and neck and put a tee shirt over it. When you go to bed apply it again and put some on the bottom of your feet too. That is one old remedy that people say work.
