It's been recommended by some people to gently blow your nose when it's bleeding, because it removes the clot or whatever that's keeping the blood flowing.

Sorry to be gross, but I notice that sometimes when I do, it's just a mass of mucus that comes out. I know when I was younger we used to say "I just blew out a blood vessel", but I doubt that's true.

Why does blowing your nose sometimes work with nosebleeds?

Blowing your nose might help , if it continues to bleed try applying ice to the side that is bleeding , keeping head level no bending or tilting head bach ! after a few mins it should have stopped without you blowing yor nose , sometimes blowing will only make it bleed more !

That makes no sense to me whatsoever. If you have a nose bleed, a vessel is ruptured. You have to put pressure on that until it DOES CLOT...not to get rid of a clot. The clot is what makes it stop. Just lean forward and pinch your nose for a good 10 minutes, and try NOT to blow your nose for the next 12 hours and definitely don't pick it.

Pinch you're nose for around 15 to 20 minutes or until the bleeding stops. Don't tilt you're head backwards because the bold will drip down you're through (yuck). If you get a lot of nose bleeds think about buying a humidifier and put it in you're bedroom when you sleep. I get bad nosebleeds during the winter and that is what I had to do. Hope it helps!
