Watch your cat, she what he or she does. Do some free association about those actions and the cat will "tell" you its name.
We had a kitten who purred very loudly and I casually said he sounded like an outboard motor. He bacame Evinrude.
Our next guy tried to steal all the food from the other cats. He became The Goniff, 'thief' in Yiddish.

How about Licorice? Blackjack? Ace? You didn't say if your cat is a male or a female. For a girl - Clara Nette - a word play on the instrument, clarinet, because it's black.

I had the sweetest black cat I named Midnight. I also like Sheba. My current kitty is a little terror, so I named him Spaz. I was going to name him Monkey, though.

I have a black cat named PICKLES, named because my sons name is dylan and every one started calling him dill so now i have dill pickles
I also have a stray black cat around here that i call THE DEMON because she attacked me once, but the name i like most for a black cat is PHANOM (SP)
