I love beer for social events (liking watching the ball game), but if I had to choose a drink to drink on a regular basis, I would go with wine (red). Regular consumption of up to 1-2 drinks a day does reduce mortality, due to a 10%–40% lower risk of coronary heart disease, especially for those over the age of 35. Its better for you than beer. Love the stuff.

Wine because it has many qualities that are good for you as opposed to beer which has a high calorie content. Wine can be used as an antiseptic, as a boon for heart, a sealer of friuendship, a sweet prelude to love, a warmer of chilled bones and a compliment to fine food.

Personally red wine - but it would depend on whether you were planning on serving it with a meal or not. Beer goes well with curry but wine goes better with meat dishes. White wine with fish or as an aperetif works well.

If the wine didn't have the required sulfites, it might be a tougher choice. Beer, as in ale - India Pale Ale or something darker and richer.

I prefer beer. More volume for the money. Wine sounds too snobby to me.
