Your dog may have a mild allergy to one of the ingredients in Advanatage. If this is the problem, the chances are its the active ingredient (the pesticide responsible for killing the fleas). There are several different products out there for fleas and ticks, try another one that has a different pesticide and see if the same thing happens.
Advantage has imidacloprid as the active ingredient
K9 Advantix also has imidacloprid and permethrin as it's active ingredients. (If you have cats in the house, I'd recommend NOT using this, as if they manage to get a hold of the K9 Advantix it could kill them)
Frontline has fipronil as the active ingredient
Revolution (which also protects against heartworms) has selamectin has the active ingredient.

If the dog has already been bitten by fleas, it could be the old bites irritating them (if I get flea bites, they bug me for a few days). If they are scratching near their ears, it could well be mites, which are NOT killed by most flea/tick meds. Also, only about 10% of a flea infestation are on your animals. The other 90% are in their environment. Vacuum every day for the next week or so, including bedding, carpet, upholstery... Wash your sheets, pillow covers, drapes or curtains.... The little bugs live everywhere.
The scratching could easily be caused by something else irritating the skin: mosquitoes, allergies, something they rolled in, mange, hot spots, ringworm... The possibilities are endless. If they continue to scratch over the next few days, or if they start to bleed/lose hair, please go to the vet. It's almost impossible to reliably diagnose problems over the internet. Some of those things, like ringworm, can be passed to humans.
Good luck!

Advantage works through the blood stream and is meant to be applied every 4 weeks. Advantage and all those topical flea treatments are a chemical you can overdose your dog. I would not apply any more until the time is up to do so.

You should wait a few days after Advantage before bathing, but they probably have a skin irritation (maybe from the flea bites). Hartz makes a wonderful iodine shampoo that takes the itch away. It will make them calm and tranquil as can be!

It might not be fleas. Give them ear mite stuff if they are scratching near their ears. Or they might have a rash or allergies to something.

Don't use advantage, use advantix it works way better. I volunteered for a vet. for about a year and the main doctor said advantix was a better choice.

When you get bit by a flea....does it go away in one day ? Well neither does theirs. Until the actual bite goes away, they're going to itch.
