That's correct. Your body "settles down" to sleep for the night. During this time, it cuts the amount of digestion it does. In combination with the fact that you're asleep and not moving, so you're not burning any calories, it's much easier to just eat during the day instead of trying to catch up in the morning ;)

This is a misconception that many believe. It is based on your total daily caloric intake. You will not gain weight if you eat late at night and are still under what your body needs or has used in calories for the day. It is when you eat more calories than your body has burned for the day that you gain weight, no matter what time you eat the food. But it is also good to know that the first two hours you are asleep is when the body does most of the repairs on your body, so if you have eaten and then you go to sleep your body is spending that time digesting food and not repairing your body. It can also lead to heart burn.

Not true. You're still burning calories while sleeping so it doesn't really matter when you eat. If you're trying to gain muscle mass it's actually recommended so you don't go on a catabolic stage when sleeping.

depends on what you're eating really as some things are digested more slowly by your system
Take Cottage cheese as a good example...it takes awhile for your stomach to break down the casein protein in it

No, it's not true. A candy bar has 230 calories whether you eat it in the afternoon or right before bed. The "don't eat before bed" mantra works only because you are NOT eating, not because of WHEN you are not eating.

No. Eating after, e.g., six o'clock usually leads to more storage of fat, because people tend to engage in less physical activity than before that time. Also, I have "hered" that it is terribly disheartening for individuals to post questions without a command of the ENGLISH LANGUAGE!!!!! GO PURCHASE A BOOK THAT WILL IMPROVE YOUR GRAMMAR!!!!! THANKS! P.S. "e.g." is a Latin abbreviation that translates into "for example." There is your grammar lesson for the day. You are very welcome!
