Men usually try a more violent method like a gun where women do not.

It is the way and manner that the sexes will try to commit suicide. Women are more likely to tell someone that they are planning to do it, and they often times do things that are able to be reversed if caught in time, such as slitting and pill taking. of course they don't always get reversed because their are some females who do die.
Men on the other hand try to commit suicide by more drastic means, such as driving off a cliff, or shooting themselves. These ways are quick and they often are successful.
It isn't really a question of failure, but rather getting saved by the people around you.
Most people who try to commit suicide do not actaully want to die, but rather find an end to their suffering. They are often very depressed and don't want to feel that pain anymore. However when they are on the verge of death those that end up survivng their attempt often say that when they thought they were actually going to die that all they wanted to do is live. and if this is truely the case i wouldn't say that anyone fails at suicide, they can be successful at their attempt, or they can see an alternative to making their pain go away.

Men usually don't take the "wussy" ways out like pills or slit wrists. They use guns and trains and jumping more. When men want to commit suicide they make up their mind and do it, most of the time. Women on the other hand, find it really stupid and want more of a peaceful way to go rather than the violence of a bullet to the head of the pain of falling and smooshing on the pavement.
I think women do it more because they are usually more of a victim on society, other people, and themselves. Men tend to suppress emotions more and so are use to being hurt by the above mentioned.

I think women try more because they are way more emotional and hormonal. Also a failed suicide is one that went wrong or that was backed out of midway. Again, women are so emotional that in the middle of something so huge, their emotions can change and have them reconsider. Men on the other hand are more likely to make up their minds about something and follow it through completely.

It's never been clear whether the female "attempts" are indeed that, or infact "cries for help".
I suspect that, as self harming (cutting etc) might be considered a suicide attempts, and given the tendency of the female towards melodrama, a lot of percieved "suicide attempts" are actually just attention seeking.

Frequently a suicide attempt is a cry for help. I believe many women use a method that if they are found in time, can be saved. I think women are more open to mental health help than men are. Men tend to use methods that are fast and frequently make them unable to be rescued like using a gun or hanging themselves. In either case, it's really sad when a person gets to the point of taking his or her own life.

A lot of people who attempt suicide do it as a cry for help, not as a serious attempt to end their lives. They take pills or half-assed try to kill them selves but it just leads them to the help they need. I also think that it is socially more acceptable for women to seek help when in emotional trouble and for men, its harder for them to seek psychological help because they don't want to be perceived as week or having problems. Men reach such a state of despair that they are more able to follow through on their attempts to end their lives. Just MHO.

OK, at the risk of drawing some serious ire, I'm saying that the people who make "half-attempts" are not really trying to kill themselves, they are only seeking attention. Or perhaps they change their minds at the last minute, which will save their lives but put them in the hospital for a suicide attempt.

Most suicide attempts are a cry for help. This is how they get it.
Someone who is serious about killing them selves and slices their wrist will cut horizontal if they are not serious they will cut vertical.
Someone who is serious about killing them selves will just do it. While others will tell someone they are thinking about suicide. It is a cry for help that all to often goes ignored. Then when they really do it family and friends are surprised when they had plenty of warning.

You fall by falling off a building or something that's high up and you fall straight down... Woman just don't have that feeling that they really want to commit suicide. If they don't try, well, they try again, but not as hard as men. Men think of stupid things, and that's how they kill themselves...ask a phychotrist

Men are more likely to take a more violent route.
A woman will try to slit her wrists or take a bunch of asprins. These methods take time, even hours, before it actually kills them, giving plenty of time for them to be saved.
A man is more likely to hang himself or use a gun to the head. There is little chance that someone can save them once they have committed the act.
